Abstract

A modular rotary anvil for an ultrasonic welding machine, comprising of a shaft, and a plurality of spaced inserts coupled to the shaft, each of the inserts extending from the shaft substantially the same distance, and being configured to engage a workpiece, wherein at least one of the inserts has a peripheral textured surface pattern, and another one of the inserts has a peripheral smooth surface pattern.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
1 . A modular rotary anvil for an ultrasonic welding machine, comprising of:
a shaft; and a plurality of spaced inserts coupled to the shaft, each of the inserts extending from the shaft substantially the same distance, and being configured to engage a workpiece, wherein at least one of the inserts has a peripheral textured surface pattern, and another one of the inserts has a peripheral smooth surface pattern.

2 . The modular rotary anvil as recited in claim 1 wherein the textured surface pattern is a knurled surface pattern.

3 . The modular rotary anvil as recited in claim 1 wherein at least one of said inserts has a cutting surface.

4 . The modular rotary anvil as recited in claim 1 wherein at least one of said inserts has at least one recessed groove.

5 . The modular rotary anvil as recited in claim 4 wherein the at least one insert has a cutting surface.

6 . The modular rotary anvil as recited in claim 4 wherein the at least one recessed groove extends around a circumference of the at least one insert.

7 . The modular rotary anvil as recited in claim 6 wherein the at least one recessed groove has a flat, smooth surface textured pattern.

8 . The modular rotary anvil as recited in claim 1 wherein at least one of said inserts has at least one protrusion.

9 . The modular rotary anvil as recited in claim 8 wherein the at least one protrusion extends around a circumference of the at least one insert.

10 . The modular rotary anvil as recited in claim 9 wherein the at least one protrusion has a flat, smooth surface texture pattern.

11 . The modular rotary anvil as recited in claim 9 wherein the at least one protrusion has a textured surface pattern.

12 . The modular rotary anvil as recited in claim 11 wherein the textured surface pattern is a knurled surface pattern.
