Abstract
An improved process for bleaching Kraft pulp is disclosed. The improved process involves the use of hydrogen peroxide to treat brownstock before treatment with chlorine or chlorine containing compounds. The process may also be used to treat recycle pulp.

In a process for bleaching Kraft pulp the improvement comprising washing Kraft unbleached brownstock pulp prior to bleaching with chlorind or chlorine-containing compounds with a composition consisting essentually of hydrogen peroxide in an amount from 0.05 to 2% by weight based on the weight of the brownstock pulp in the absence of added alkali.
