Abstract

A welder's helmet is provided including a welder's mask having a sight window and at least one opening in the mask for accommodating a filter cartridge of a respirator mask. The respirator mask is independently strapped to the user's head to assure proper airtight fit to the user's face. A foam mounting structure is formed from a plurality of spacer strips that allow the user to customize the spacing between the welder's mask and respirator mask to fit their individual size requirements. A pair of respirator cartridges can be utilized to extend from the sides of the welder's helmet so as not to provide an obstruction in front of the user's face.

Claims

1 . A welder's helmet, comprising:
a mask adapted to be worn over a user's face and including a sight window and at least one opening in said mask, said mask including a first strap adapted to engage a user's head for holding the mask in place; and a respirator adapted to be worn over a user's nose and mouth and including at least one respirator filter disposed in said at least one opening in said mask, said respirator including a second strap adapted to be fastened around a user's head for holding the respirator in place.

2 . The welder's helmet according to claim 1 , further comprising at least one foam strip secured inside of said mask, wherein said respirator is secured to said at lest one foam strip.

3 . The welder's helmet according to claim 2 , wherein said at least one foam strip includes a plurality of foam strips that are selectively stacked to provide a desired spacing between said mask and said respirator.

4 . The welder's helmet according to claim 2 , wherein said respirator is secured to said at least one foam strip by a releasable hook and loop fastener.

5 . The welder's helmet according to claim 1 , wherein said at least one hole in said mask includes a pair of openings disposed in said mask and said respirator includes a pair of respirator filters disposed in said pair of openings.

6 . The welder's helmet according to claim 1 , wherein said at least one respirator filter is removably attached to said respirator.

7 . The welder's helmet according to claim 1 , further comprising a cover member adapted to be mounted over said at least one opening in said mask.

8 . The welder's helmet according to claim 7 , wherein said cover member is mounted to said mask by a magnet.

       9 . A welder's helmet, comprising:
a mask adapted to be worn over a user's face and including a sight window and a pair of openings in said mask; and a respirator adapted to be worn over a user's nose and mouth and including a pair of respirator filters each disposed in a respective one of said pair of openings in said mask.

10 . The welder's helmet according to claim 9 , further comprising at least one foam strip secured inside of said mask, wherein said respirator is secured to said at lest one foam strip.

11 . The welder's helmet according to claim 10 , wherein said at least one foam strip includes a plurality of foam strips that are selectively stacked to provide a desired spacing between said mask and said respirator.

12 . The welder's helmet according to claim 9 , wherein said respirator is secured to said at least one foam strip by a releasable hook and loop fastener.

13 . The welder's helmet according to claim 9 , wherein said pair of respirator filters are removably attached to said respirator.

14 . The welder's helmet according to claim 9 , further comprising a pair of cover members adapted to be mounted over said pair of openings in said mask.

15 . The welder's helmet according to claim 9 , wherein said mask includes a first strap adapted to engage a user's head for holding the mask in place and said respirator includes a second strap adapted to be fastened around a user's head for holding the respirator in place.

       16 . A welder's helmet, comprising:
a mask adapted to be worn over a user's face and including a sight window; a respirator adapted to be worn over a user's nose and mouth; and at least one foam strip secured inside of said mask, wherein said respirator is secured to said at least one foam strip.

17 . The welder's helmet according to claim 16 , wherein said at least one foam strip includes a plurality of foam strips that are selectively stacked to provide a desired spacing between said mask and said respirator.

18 . The welder's helmet according to claim 16 , wherein said respirator is secured to said at least one foam strip by a releasable hook and loop fastener.

19 . The welder's helmet according to claim 16 , further comprising a pair of openings in said mask and said respirator including a pair of respirator filters each disposed in a respective one of said pair of openings in said mask.
