Headrest insert

Abstract

A headrest insert for an automobile headrest has first and second rod holders for engaging support rods of the headrest. A web interconnects the first and second rod holders and includes a corrugated section accommodating twisting or skewing of the rod holders relative to one another. The insert can be formed as a monolithic body of plastic.

1 . A headrest insert for an automobiles headrest, comprising: 
 first and second rod holders;    a web connected to and spanning the area between said first and second rod holders, said web having a top edge and a bottom edge; and    a flex portion in said web extending from said top edge of said web to said bottom edge of said web for accommodating relative angular movement between said first rod holder and said second rod holder.    
     
     
         2 . The headrest insert of  claim 1 , said web including a center plate and first and second flex portions between said center plate and said first and second rod holders, respectively.  
     
     
         3 . The headrest insert of  claim 2 , said first and second flex portions comprising corrugating structure having ridges and valleys extending between said top edge of said web and said bottom edge of said web.  
     
     
         4 . The headrest insert of  claim 4 , said center plate having at least one opening therethrough.  
     
     
         5 . The headrest insert of  claim 1 , said flex portion comprising a corrugated body having ridges and valleys extending from said top edge of said web to said bottom edge of said web.  
     
     
         6 . The headrest insert of  claim 5 , including two said corrugated portions, one said corrugated portion adjacent said first rod holder and the other of said corrugated portions adjacent said second rod holder.  
     
     
         7 . The headrest insert of  claim 6 , each said rod holder including a cylindrical rod receiver and a flange adjacent said receiver.  
     
     
         8 . The headrest insert of  claim 7 , each said rod holder including first and second flanges on opposite sides thereof.  
     
     
         9 . The headrest insert of  claim 1 , each said rod holder including a cylindrical rod receiver and a flange adjacent said receiver.  
     
     
         10 . The headrest insert of  claim 9 , each said rod holder including first and second flanges on opposite sides thereof.  
     
     
         11 . The headrest insert of  claim 1 , comprising a monolithic body.  
     
     
         12 . A headrest insert comprising: 
 first and second rod receivers adapted for engaging a support rod inserted therein;    a web interconnecting said first and second rod holders; and    at least one corrugated portion in said web having a series of ridges and valleys extending from a top edge of said web to a bottom edge of said web.    
     
     
         13 . The headrest insert of  claim 12 , comprising a monolithic body.  
     
     
         14 . The headrest insert of  claim 12 , having first and second corrugated portions adjacent said first and second rod holders respectively, and a non-corrugated plate-like portion between said first and second corrugated portions.  
     
     
         15 . The headrest insert of  claim 14 , comprising a monolithic body.  
     
     
         16 . The headrest insert of  claim 14 , said plate-like portion having at least one opening therethrough.  
     
     
         17 . The headrest insert of  claim 16 , said opening being elongated in the general direction between said first and second corrugated portions.  
     
     
         18 . A headrest insert comprising: 
 first and second rod receivers adapted for engaging support rods inserted therein;    a web interconnecting said first and second rod holders, said web having a top edge and a bottom edge; and    at least one region in said web having a compressible and extendable structure disposed from said top edge to said bottom edge, said structure enabling accordion-like movement of said first and second rod receivers.    
     
     
         19 . The head rest insert of  claim 18  including two regions of said web having compressible and extendable structure enabling accordion-like movement of said first and second rod receivers.  
     
     
         20 . The head rest insert of  claim 18 , said web including a center distortable region and regions of said web on opposite sides of said center distortable region having compressible and extendable structure enabling accordion-like movement of said first and second rod receivers.
