Abstract

The present invention includes a method for making a formulation for treating mucosal discontinuities, comprising: providing phenolic compounds and treating the purified phenolic compounds with sulfuric acid to make sulfonic acids and sulfonate salts. The present invention also includes formulations prepared by the method.

       10 . A method for exfoliating skin, comprising: 
 packaging an exfoliating composition comprising phenolsulfonic acid, guaiacolsulfonic acid and, optionally, sulfosalicylic acid.

       18 . The method of  claim 10 , further comprising packaging the exfoliating composition in predetermined quantities of exfoliating composition effective for exfoliating skin.  
   
   
       19 . The method of  claim 10 , further comprising packaging the exfoliating composition with an applicator.  
   
   
       20 . The method of  claim 10 , further comprising packaging the exfoliating composition with a mechanism capable of heating or cooling the exfoliating composition.  
   
   
       21 . The method of  claim 19 , wherein the applicator includes one or more of an abrasive pad, a brush, an abrasive board, or other abrasive device.  
   
   
       22 . The method of  claim 10 , further comprising further comprising providing instructions for using the exfoliating composition to exfoliate skin.  
   
   
       23 . The method of  claim 10 , wherein the exfoliating composition is a cream or paste.

       25 . The method of  claim 10 , further comprising packaging the exfoliating composition with instructions for exfoliating callouses.  
   
   
       26 . The method of  claim 10 , wherein the exfoliating composition further comprises an emulsifier.  
   
   
       27 . The method of  claim 10 , wherein the exfoliating composition further comprises a preservative.
