Architectural finish attachment assembly apparatus and method
Abstract
An architectural finish attachment assembly ( 100 and 700 ) formed in accordance with the present invention for coupling an architectural finish ( 102 ) to a building structure ( 104 ). The architectural finish attachment assembly includes a base structure ( 110 and 710 ) having a first surface ( 124 and 752 ) adapted to engage the building structure and a second surface ( 126 and 753 ) disposed opposite the first surface and a spike ( 114, 214, 314, 414, 514, 614 , and 714 ) extending outward at an incline from the second surface, the spike adapted to impale the architectural finish for removably coupling the architectural finish to the building structure.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modified1 . A method of attaching an architectural finish to a building structure using an architectural finish attachment assembly having a spike comprising:
(a) attaching the architectural finish attachment assembly to the building structure with the spike facing outward from the building structure; (b) applying an adhesive to the architectural finish; (c) impaling the architectural finish upon the spike such that the architectural finish is attached to the building structure with the adhesive in contact with the building structure; and (d) permitting the adhesive to permanently cure to adhere the architectural finish to the building structure.
2 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising passing a fastener through an aperture in the architectural finish attachment assembly to attach the architectural finish attachment assembly to the building structure.
3 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the architectural finish is formed at least partially from foam and wherein the building structure is a wall of a building.
4 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the attachment device is a plate with a plurality of spikes extending substantially perpendicularly outward from the plate.
5 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising removing the architectural finish from the spike of the architectural finish attachment assembly, repositioning the architectural finish, and re-impaling the architectural finish upon the spike.
6 . A method of attaching an architectural finish to a building structure using an architectural finish attachment assembly having a spike comprising:
(a) placing the architectural finish attachment assembly against the building structure; (b) attaching the architectural finish attachment assembly to the building structure with the spike facing outward from the building structure by passing a fastener through a preformed fastener aperture in the architectural finish attachment assembly and into the building structure; (c) applying an adhesive to the architectural finish; (d) impaling the architectural finish upon the spike such that the architectural finish is removably attached to the building structure with the adhesive in contact with the building structure; and (e) permitting the adhesive to cure to permanently adhere the architectural finish to the building structure while the architectural finish attachment assembly holds the architectural finish in place.
7 . The method of claim 6 , using an architectural finish formed at least partially from foam.
8 . The method of claim 6 , further comprising removing the architectural finish from the spike of the architectural finish attachment assembly, repositioning the architectural finish, and re-impaling the architectural finish upon the spike prior to the adhesive curing.
9 . An architectural finish attachment assembly for coupling an architectural finish to a building structure, the architectural finish attachment assembly comprising:
(a) a base structure having a first surface adapted to engage the building structure and a second surface disposed opposite the first surface; and (b) a spike extending outward at an incline from the second surface, the spike adapted to impale the architectural finish for removably coupling the architectural finish to the building structure.
10 . The architectural finish attachment assembly of claim 9 , wherein the spike includes a width which tapers to terminate in a point at a distal end of the spike.
11 . The architectural finish attachment assembly of claim 9 , wherein the spike is planar in shape.
12 . The architectural finish attachment assembly of claim 9 , wherein the spike is arcuate in shape.
13 . The architectural finish attachment assembly of claim 9 , wherein the spike includes a barb for aiding retention of an object impaled upon the spike.
14 . The architectural finish attachment assembly of claim 9 , wherein the spike is cylindrical in shape.
15 . The architectural finish attachment assembly of claim 9 , wherein the spike is substantially X-shaped in cross-section.
16 . The architectural finish attachment assembly of claim 9 , wherein the spike is integrally formed with the base plate.
17 . The architectural finish attachment assembly of claim 16 , wherein the base plate includes a spike cut-out aperture having a shape substantially identical to a shape of the spike.
18 . The architectural finish attachment assembly of claim 17 , wherein the base plate includes a fastener aperture passing through the base plate for permitting a fastener to pass through the fastener aperture when the architectural finish attachment assembly is coupled to the building structure.
19 . The architectural finish attachment assembly of claim 18 , further including a plurality of spikes, a plurality of spike cut-out apertures, and a plurality of fastener apertures.
20 .
