Abstract

A golf putter head with a front edge is used for striking a golf ball in an essentially linear contact area horizontal to the ground when putting and an opposed back edge. A length is defined between a toe edge which extends from the front edge to the back edge of the blade and an opposed heel edge, and a thickness is defined between a top side bordered by the edges and an opposed bottom side. The golf putter includes a non-horizontal groove on the front edge at least adjacent to a ball contact portion of the head defined by a non-horizontal projection corresponding to the non-horizontal groove.

In a golf putter head with a front edge used for striking a golf ball in an essentially linear contact area horizontal to the ground when putting and an opposed back edge, a length defined between a toe edge which extends from the front edge to the back edge of the blade and an opposed heel edge, and a thickness defined between a top side bordered by the edges and an opposed bottom side, the improvement which comprises a non-horizontal groove on the front edge at least adjacent to a ball contact portion of the head defined by a non-horizontal projection corresponding to the non-horizontal groove.  
     
     
         2 . The putter head of  claim 1  wherein the front edge defines a substantially flat face to strike the golf ball.  
     
     
         3 . The putter head of  claim 1  wherein the groove is substantially slanted with respect to the vertical.  
     
     
         4 . The putter head of  claim 3  wherein said slanted groove is slanted toward a heel of said golf putter head.  
     
     
         5 . The putter head of  claim 3  wherein the slanted groove is slanted toward a toe of said golf putter head.  
     
     
         6 . The putter head of  claim 1  wherein the groove has a width of no more than 0.07 inches.  
     
     
         7 . The putter head of  claim 1  wherein the groove has a have a width of 0.05-0.07 inches.  
     
     
         8 . The putter head of  claim 1  wherein the putter face has a radius of up to 8 inches.  
     
     
         9 . The putter head of  claim 3 , wherein the slanted groove defines a slanted projection.  
     
     
         10 . The putter head of  claim 1  wherein the groove is substantially oval shaped.  
     
     
         11 . The putter head of  claim 10  wherein the oval shaped groove does not extend to an edge of said golf putter head.  
     
     
         12 . The putter head of  claim 1 , wherein the groove is substantially a semi circular shape.  
     
     
         13 . The putter head of  claim 12 , where in the substantially semi circular groove extends to an edge of said putter head.  
     
     
         14 . The putter head of  claim 1 , wherein the groove is substantially a circular shape.  
     
     
         15 . The putter head of  claim 14 , wherein the substantially circular shaped groove extends to an edge of said putter head.  
     
     
         16 . The putter head of  claim 1 , wherein the groove is substantially vertical.  
     
     
         17 . The putter head of  claim 16 , wherein the groove extends to an edge of said putter head.  
     
     
         18 . The putter head of  claim 1 , wherein the putter head includes intersecting grooves.  
     
     
         19 . The putter head of  claim 18 , wherein the intersecting grooves include a intersecting groove which is substantially vertical.  
     
     
         20 . The putter head of  claim 18 , wherein the intersecting grooves include a intersecting groove is substantially horizontal.
