Abstract

Contacting a crude feed with one or more catalysts to produce a total product that includes the crude product is described. The crude feed has a TAN of at least 1. At least one of the catalysts includes one or more metals from Columns 6-10 of the Periodic Table and/or one or more compounds of one or more metals from Columns 6-10 of the Periodic Table. Contacting conditions are controlled contacting such that the crude product has a TAN from about 0.001 to about 0.5.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
1 . A method of producing a crude product, comprising:
contacting a crude feed with one or more catalysts to produce a total product that includes the crude product, wherein the crude product is a liquid mixture at 25° C. and 0.101 MPa, the crude feed having a TAN of at least 1, at least one of the catalysts comprising one or more metals from Columns 6-10 of the Periodic Table and/or one or more compounds of one or more metals from Columns 6-10 of the Periodic Table; and controlling contacting conditions such that the crude product has a TAN from about 0.001 to about 0.5, wherein TAN is as determined by ASTM D664.

2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the TAN of the crude feed is at least 5.

3 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the TAN of the crude feed is at least 8.

4 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the TAN of the crude feed is at least 10.

5 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the crude product has a TAN ranging from 0.002 to about 0.3.

6 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the catalyst is a supported catalyst, and wherein the support comprises alumina, silica, silica-alumina, titanium oxide, zirconium oxide, magnesium oxide, or mixtures thereof.

7 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the crude feed has, per gram of crude feed, a total content of alkali metal and alkaline-earth metal in metal salts of organic acids of at least 0.00001 grams and the crude product has a total content of alkali metal and alkaline-earth metal in metal salts of organic acids of at most 90% of the content of alkali metal, and alkaline-earth metal, in metal salts of organic acids in the crude feed.

8 . The method of claim 7 , wherein one or more of the metals is calcium, potassium, sodium, magnesium, lithium, or combinations thereof.

9 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the crude feed has a content of Columns 5-12 metals in metal salts of organic acids, and the crude product has a content of Columns 5-12 metals in metal salts of organic acids of at most 90% of the content of Columns 5-12 metals in metal salts of organic acids of the crude feed.

10 . The method of claim 9 , wherein one or more of the metals is vanadium, molybdenum, chromium, iron, nickel, zinc, or combinations thereof.

11 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the crude feed comprises silicon, and the crude product has a content of silicon of at most 90% of the content of the silicon of the crude feed.

12 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the crude feed has a viscosity of at least 10 cSt at 37.8° C. (100° F.) and the contacting conditions are controlled such that the crude product has a viscosity at 37.8° C. of at most 90% of the viscosity of the crude feed at 37.8° C.
