Golf putting training aid

Abstract

A golf training aid includes a base for coupling to a golf club, and a long arm extending from the base, such that the long arm will be substantially perpendicular to the face of the golf club. A golf club including an alignment indicator is described. A method of golf training is also described. A stance is taken over a ball with a club having an alignment indicator which is substantially parallel to a face of the club. A long arm of the alignment indicator is aligned with a desired putting line. The club is swung to contact the ball while maintaining alignment between the long arm and the desired putting line in order to propel the ball along the desired putting line.

1 . A golf training aid for a golf club having a club head with a face for contacting a ball fixedly connected to a shaft, comprising: 
 a body having: 
 a base;  
 a first arm extending perpendicular to the base;  
 a coupling for mounting the first arm perpendicular to the club head  
   an alignment line for placement on a green with a first end and a second end, such that the first arm is aligned with the alignment line for guidance and alignment.    
   
   
       2 . The golf training aid of  claim 1 , wherein  2  the coupling is selected from the group consisting of clamps, brackets, U-clamps, and magnets.  
   
   
       3 . The golf training aid of  claim 1 , wherein the base and the first arm form a substantially T-Square shape.  
   
   
       4 . The golf training aid of  claim 1 , wherein the base and the first arm form a substantially L-Square shape.  
   
   
       5 . The golf training aid of  claim 1 , further comprising an offset arm attached to the club shaft and the base is slidably coupled to the offset arm.  
   
   
       6 . The golf training aid of  claim 1 , wherein the base is a first rod, the first arm is a second rod perpendicular to the first rod, and the coupling mounts the first rod to the shaft of the golf club.  
   
   
       7 . The golf training aid of  claim 6 , wherein the second rod is slidably coupled perpendicular to the first rod.  
   
   
       8 . The golf training aid of  claim 1 , wherein the first end of the alignment line comprises a ring for coupling to a flag pin at the center of a golf hole.  
   
   
       9 . The golf training aid of  claim 1 , wherein the second end of the alignment line comprises a golfer's ball marker for coupling to a position of a golf ball on a putting surface.  
   
   
       10 . The golf training aid of  claim 1 , wherein the rods are made of plastic.  
   
   
       11 . A method of training a golfer to putt, using a golf training aid comprising a body having: a base; a first arm extending perpendicular to the base; and a coupling for mounting the first arm perpendicular to the club head, the method comprising the steps of: 
 placing an alignment line on a green between a putting position and a golf hole;    placing a ball on the alignment line;    aligning the first arm of the golf training aid with the alignment line; and    swinging the golf club to contact the ball, while maintaining alignment between the first arm and the alignment line, putting the ball along the alignment line.    
   
   
       12 . The method of  claim 11  wherein the alignment line is a chalk line, a thread, a string, or a rope.  
   
   
       13 . The method of  claim 11  wherein aligning the first arm of the alignment indicator with the alignment line comprises the step of visually aligning the first arm substantially parallel to the alignment line, such that alignment line and the first arm visually coincide.  
   
   
       14 . The method of  claim 11 , wherein the golf training aid further comprises an offset arm attached to the club shaft and the base is slidably coupled to the offset arm.  
   
   
       15 . The method of  claim 11 , wherein the base of the golf training aid is a first rod, the first arm is a second rod perpendicular to the first rod, and the coupling mounts the first rod to the shaft of a golf club.  
   
   
       16 . The method of  claim 11 , wherein the base and the first arm are a single unitary body forming a T or an L.  
   
   
       17 . The method of  claim 11 , wherein aligning the first arm of the alignment indicator with the alignment line comprises the step of visually aligning the first arm substantially on the alignment line, such that alignment line and the first arm visually coincide
