Abstract
A sponge for applying a self tanning lotion made of cellulose and having medium to fine pore size, where the sponge absorbs and releases lotion, where the sponge is of sufficient thickness not to flex or impart streaks when the sponge is pressed against the skin to apply the lotion, and a cosmetic package containing the sponge and lotion wherein the package is a foil laminate and is sealed.

A method of applying a self-tanning lotion to skin comprising applying the self-tanning lotion to a sponge, and applying the lotion to the skin, wherein the sponge is made of cellulose having medium to fine pore size, wherein the sponge is of sufficient thickness to not flex or impart streaks from pressure points when the sponge is pressed against the skin to apply the lotion, and wherein the sponge is able to absorb and release the self-tanning lotion.
2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the sponge is from about one half to one inch thick.
3 . The method of claim 2 , wherein the width and length of the sponge is from about six inches by four inches to about three inches by about two inches.
4 . The method of claim 3 wherein the sponge has a rectangular shape.
5 . The method of claim 3 , wherein the sponge has an hourglass shape.

A self-tanning sponge comprising a sponge containing self-tanning lotion, wherein the sponge is made of cellulose having medium to fine pore size, wherein the sponge is of sufficient thickness to not flex or impart streaks from pressure points when the sponge is pressed against the skin to apply the lotion, wherein the sponge is able to absorb and release self-tanning lotion.
7 . The sponge of claim 6 , wherein the sponge is from about one half to one inch thick.
8 . The sponge of claim 7 , wherein the width and length of the sponge is from about six inches by four inches to about three inches by about two inches.
9 . The sponge of claim 8 wherein the sponge has a rectangular shape.
10 . The sponge of claim 8 , wherein the sponge has an hourglass shape.
11 . The sponge of claim 10 , wherein the sponge is contained in a sealed package.

A cosmetic package comprising a pouch containing a sponge containing self-tanning lotion, wherein the sponge is made of cellulose having medium to fine pore size, wherein the sponge is of sufficient thickness to not flex or impart streaks from pressure points when the sponge is pressed against the skin to apply the lotion, wherein the sponge is able to absorb and release self-tanning lotion, and wherein the package is sealed.
13 . The cosmetic package of claim 12 , wherein the package is made of laminated foil, wherein the laminate is on the interior of the package.
14 . The sponge of claim 12 , wherein the sponge is from about one half to one inch thick, wherein the width and length of the sponge is from about six inches by four inches to about three inches by about two inches, and the sponge has an hourglass shape.
15 . A self-tanning lotion comprising the formula:

A method of preparing the self-tanning lotion of claim 15 comprising dissolving the sodium metabisulfate and DHA in the deionized water, adding the erythrulose and witch hazel extract with mixing until dissolved, pre-mixing the remaining ingredients, and adding the pre-mix slowly to the solution with mixing until a clear solution is achieved.

The self tanning lotion of claim 15 , wherein the lotion is absorbed onto a self tanning sponge wherein the sponge is made of cellulose having medium to fine pore size, wherein the sponge is of sufficient thickness to not flex or impart streaks from pressure points when the sponge is pressed against the skin to apply the lotion, wherein the sponge is able to absorb and release self-tanning lotion.

The self tanning lotion of claim 15 , wherein the lotion is contained in a cosmetic package comprising a pouch containing a sponge containing the self-tanning lotion, wherein the sponge is made of cellulose having medium to fine pore size, wherein the sponge is of sufficient thickness to not flex or impart streaks from pressure points when the sponge is pressed against the skin to apply the lotion, wherein the sponge is able to absorb and release self-tanning lotion, and wherein the package is sealed.
19 . The self tanning lotion of claim 17 , wherein the sponge is from about one half to one inch thick, wherein the width and length of the sponge is from about six inches by four inches to about three inches by about two inches, and the sponge has an hourglass shape.
