Abstract

In a transponder ( 19 ) for amplification of a received signal ( 60 ) into an antenna ( 1 ), to a signal ( 61 ) for retransmission, and where the retransmitted signal ( 61 ) possibly may have information superimposed, a quenched oscillator ( 5 ) is incorporated as amplifying element. The oscillator ( 5 ) is preferably of superregenerative type and exhibits negative resistance ( 30 ) for the received signal ( 60 ). Transponders according to the present invention may be introduced as system elements in a wireless or wire based network to work as intelligent or unintelligent connections in the network. The transponders can also be used in positioning systems.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
1 . A repeater or transponder of super regenerative, analogue type with any of very large dynamic range and very wide bandwidth and band-pass filter characteristic, where the repeater or transponder is capable of receiving external or internal synchronization of its internal quenching system, and where selectivity requirements are adapted to any of information bandwidth and quench frequency, wherein at least two gain blocks, each consisting of a quenched oscillator or quenched amplifier, are interconnected in cascaded or parallel fashion to work as one amplifier, using the external or internal quench synchronization, and said repeater or transponder being adapted to conform with selectivity requirements.

2 . A repeater or transponder of regenerative, analogue type with any of large dynamic range and wide bandwidth and band-pass filter characteristic, and where selectivity requirements are adapted to the information bandwidth, wherein at least two gain blocks, each consisting of a quenched oscillator or quenched amplifier, are interconnected in cascaded or parallel fashion to work as one amplifier, using externally or internally synchronized low frequency quenching, and said repeater or transponder being adapted to conform with selectivity requirements.

3 . The repeater or transponder of claim 1 or 2 , for use in a positioning system, based on radio propagation or man made infrastructure,
wherein said repeater or transponder is arranged mainly to maintain positioning accuracy, coverage and range; wherein the repeater or transponder has at least one port for connection via signal coupler arrangements to a transmission medium, wherein the repeater or transponder is of analogue type with positive and large signal gain and implemented using any of solid state components and at least one solid state integrated circuit and arranged so that no or moderate coupling isolation is required between input signal and output signal based on high frequency carriers using any type of modulation and using any communication protocol, wherein selectivity requirements are further adapted to measurement bandwidth, and wherein the repeater or transponder is of regenerative type equipped with selectivity arrangements for both input and output signals, whereby band-pass analogous characteristics of the repeater or transponder are adapted to conform with selectivity requirements.

4 . The repeater or transponder according to claim 3 , wherein said repeater or transponder represents a two-or three dimensional point of any of a target and a user end of the positioning system.

5 . The repeater or transponder according to claim 3 , wherein said repeater or transponder represents a two-or three dimensional point of a relay between any of a target and a user and any of a baseline and base station of said positioning system.

6 . The repeater or transponder according to claim 3 , wherein said repeater or transponder is capable of being at any of a base line and a master station of said positioning system.

7 . The repeater or transponder according to claim 3 , wherein said repeater or transponder constitute any of a synthetic aperture and a synthetic baseline of said positioning system which is any navigation or positioning system including GPS.

8 . The repeater or transponder according to claim 3 , wherein said repeater or transponder is capable of being at least one of detection and identification targets of said positioning system.

9 . The repeater or transponder according to claim 3 , wherein said repeater or transponder has a target beacon function in said positioning system.

10 . The repeater or transponder according to claim 3 ,
wherein said repeater or transponder constitutes any of a confusion target and a confusion source in military ECM homing, positioning and jamming scenarios.
