Golf club head having internal impact assembly
Abstract
An improved golf club head having an internal impact assembly configured to improve the direction and distance of travel of a golf ball. The impact assembly is configured to impact the inside wall of the club face at an impact spot immediately after the golf ball is hit to provide a kick to the golf ball so as to direct it along the desired direction of travel. In one embodiment, the impact assembly is disposed in a club head cavity and comprises an internal tube having an impact member that travels inside the tube to contact the impact spot. In another embodiment, the impact member travels in a channel provided in a solid golf club head. Preferably, the impact member is a ball that rolls in the tube or channel. A spring can be provided in the tube or channel at end opposite the impact spot.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modified1 . A golf club head having a first end, a second end, a top side, a bottom side and a club face at said first end, said golf club head having a plurality of interior walls defining a cavity therein, said golf club head comprising:

2 . The golf club head according to claim 1 , wherein said impact member is a ball, said ball configured to roll inside said internal tube.
3 . The golf club head according to claim 1 , wherein said impact spot is substantially behind said sweet spot.
4 . The golf club head according to claim 1 , wherein said impact spot is at least partially spaced apart from said sweet spot.
5 . The golf club head according to claim 1 , wherein said second end of said internal tube is curved.
6 . The golf club head according to claim 1 , wherein said internal tube is curved generally upward at said second end of said internal tube.
7 . The golf club head according to claim 6 further comprising a spring in said internal tube at said second end of said internal tube.
8 . The golf club head according to claim 1 further comprising a spring in said internal tube at said second end of said internal tube.
9 . The golf club head according to claim 1 , wherein said internal tube is angled generally downward from said second end of said golf club head to said first end of said golf club head.
10 . A golf club head having a first end, a second end, a top side, a bottom side and a club face at said first end, said golf club head having a plurality of interior walls defining a cavity therein, said golf club head comprising:
a sweet spot on said club face; an impact spot on an interior wall at said first end of said golf club head behind said club face; and an impact assembly disposed in said cavity, said impact assembly having an internal tube disposed in said cavity and a ball rollably disposed in said internal tube, said internal tube having a first end at said impact spot and a second end toward said second end of said golf club head, said internal tube curved generally upward at said second end of said internal tube, said impact assembly configured to contact said ball against said impact spot.
11 . The golf club head according to claim 10 further comprising a spring in said internal tube at said second end of said internal tube, said spring configured to engage said ball.
12 . A golf club head having a first end, a second end, a top side, a bottom side and a club face at said first end, said golf club head comprising:
a sweet spot on said club face; an impact spot at said first end of said golf club head behind said club face; and an impact assembly disposed in golf club head, said impact assembly having a channel disposed in said golf club head and an impact member moveably disposed in said channel, said channel having a first end at said impact spot and a second end toward said second end of said golf club head, said impact assembly configured to contact said impact member against said impact spot.
13 . The golf club head according to claim 12 , wherein said impact member is a ball, said ball configured to roll inside said channel.
14 . The golf club head according to claim 12 , wherein said impact spot is substantially behind said sweet spot.
15 . The golf club head according to claim 12 , wherein said impact spot is at least partially spaced apart from said sweet spot.
16 . The golf club head according to claim 12 , wherein said second end of said channel is curved.
17 . The golf club head according to claim 12 , wherein said channel is curved generally upward at said second end of said channel.
18 . The golf club head according to claim 17 further comprising a spring in said channel at said second end of said channel.
19 . The golf club head according to claim 12 further comprising a spring in said channel at said second end of said internal tube.
20 . The golf club head according to claim 12 , wherein said channel is angled generally downward from said second end of said golf club head to said first end of said golf club head.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
