Abstract
The present invention is in the field of polymer interlayers used in multiple layer glass panels, and specifically the present invention is in the field of antiblocking agents for polymer interlayers and methods of effectively incorporating such agents into interlayers.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modified1 . An interlayer, comprising:
a polymer stack comprising a first polymer sheet, wherein said first polymer sheet is substantially free of antiblocking agent; and, a second polymer sheet disposed in contact with said polymer stack, wherein said second polymer sheet comprises an antiblocking agent and has a thickness of less than 0.4 millimeters.
2 . The interlayer of claim 1 , wherein said first polymer sheet and said second polymer sheet each comprise poly(vinyl butyral).
3 . The interlayer of claim 2 , wherein said second polymer sheet has a thickness of less than 0.3 millimeters.
4 . The interlayer of claim 2 , wherein said second polymer sheet has a thickness of less than 0.25 millimeters.
5 . The interlayer of claim 2 , wherein said antiblocking agent is a fatty acid amide with the general formula:
wherein R is a hydrocarbon chain having about 12 to about 40 carbon atoms, and R 1 is H or a hydrocarbon chain having 1 to about 40 carbon atoms.
6 . The interlayer of claim 2 , wherein said polymer stack further comprises a polymer film disposed between said first polymer sheet and said second polymer sheet.
7 . The interlayer of claim 2 , further comprising a third polymer sheet disposed in contact with said polymer stack opposite said second polymer sheet, wherein said third polymer sheet comprises an antiblocking agent and has a thickness of less than 0.4 millimeters.
8 . The interlayer of claim 2 , wherein said first polymer sheet does not comprise an antiblocking agent.
9 . An interlayer, comprising:
a polymer sheet, wherein said polymer sheet comprises an antiblocking region and a non antiblocking region, wherein said antiblocking region comprises an antiblocking agent and has a thickness of less than 0.4 millimeters, and said non antiblocking region is substantially free of antiblocking agents.
10 . The interlayer of claim 9 , wherein said antiblocking region and said non antiblocking region each comprise poly(vinyl butyral).
11 . The interlayer of claim 10 , wherein said antiblocking region has a thickness of less than 0.3 millimeters.
12 . The interlayer of claim 10 , wherein said non antiblocking region has a thickness of less than 0.125 millimeters.
13 . The interlayer of claim 10 , wherein said antiblocking agent is a fatty acid amide with the general formula:
wherein R is a hydrocarbon chain having about 12 to about 40 carbon atoms, and R 1 is H or a hydrocarbon chain having 1 to about 40 carbon atoms.
14 . The interlayer of claim 10 , wherein said first antiblocking region does not comprise an antiblocking agent.
15 . The interlayer of claim 10 , wherein said antiblocking agent comprises N-oleyl palmitamide.
16 . A method for making a polymer sheet, comprising:
coextruding a first melt and a second melt to form said polymer sheet, wherein said polymer sheet comprises an antiblocking region formed from said first melt and a non antiblocking region formed from said second melt, wherein said antiblocking region has a thickness of less than 0.4 millimeters, wherein said first melt comprises an antiblocking agent, and wherein said second melt is substantially free of antiblocking agent.
17 . The method of claim 16 , wherein said first melt and said second melt each comprise poly(vinyl butyral).
18 . The method of claim 17 , wherein said antiblocking region has a thickness of less than 0.3 millimeters.
19 . The method of claim 17 , wherein said antiblocking region has a thickness of less than 0.125 millimeters.
20 . The method of claim 17 , wherein said antiblocking agent is a fatty acid amide with the general formula:
wherein R is a hydrocarbon chain having about 12 to about 40 carbon atoms, and R 1 is H or a hydrocarbon chain having 1 to about 40 carbon atoms.
21 . The method of claim 17 , wherein said second melt does not comprise an antiblocking agent.
22 . The method of claim 17 , wherein said antiblocking agent comprises N-oleyl palmitamide.
23 . A method for making an interlayer, comprising:
providing a polymer stack, wherein said polymer stack comprises a first polymer sheet, wherein said first polymer sheet is substantially free of antiblocking agent; disposing a second polymer sheet in contact with said polymer stack, wherein said second polymer sheet comprises an antiblocking agent and has a thickness of less than 0.4 millimeters; and, laminating said polymer stack and said second polymer sheet to form an interlayer.
24 . The method of claim 23 , wherein said first polymer sheet and said second polymer sheet each comprise poly(vinyl butyral).
25 . The method of claim 24 , wherein said second polymer sheet has a thickness of less than 0.3 millimeters.
26 . The method of claim 24 , wherein said second polymer sheet has a thickness of less than 0.2 millimeters.
27 . The method of claim 24 , wherein said antiblocking agent is a fatty acid amide with the general formula:
wherein R is a hydrocarbon chain having about 12 to about 40 carbon atoms, and R 1 is H or a hydrocarbon chain having 1 to about 40 carbon atoms.
28 . The method of claim 24 , wherein said polymer stack further comprises a polymer film, which is disposed between said first polymer sheet and said second polymer sheet.
29 . The method of claim 24 , wherein said polymer stack further comprises a third polymer sheet, wherein said third polymer sheet comprises an antiblocking agent and has a thickness of less than 0.4 millimeters.
