Abstract

An inkjet wiping fluid configured to reduce ink puddling on an inkjet surface includes a non-wetting material.

1 . An inkjet wiping fluid comprising a non-wettable material.  
   
   
       2 . The inkjet wiping fluid of  claim 1 , wherein said non-wettable material comprises one of a fluorosurfactant or a fluoropolymer.  
   
   
       3 . The inkjet wiping fluid of  claim 2 , wherein said fluorosurfactant comprises a ZONYL series fluorosurfactant.

The inkjet wiping fluid of  claim 2 , wherein said fluorosurfactant comprises one of a (R F CH 2 CH 2 O) x PO(O − NH 4   + ) y , where x+y= 3  and R F ═F(CF 2 CF 2 ) 2-8  (FSP); FSP+hydrocarbon surfactant (FSJ), R F CH 2 CH 2 SO 3 H, R F CH 2 CH 2 SO 3   − NH 4   +  (TBS); C 6 F 13 CH 2 CH 2 SO 3 H, C 6 F 13 CH 2 CH 2 SO 3   − NH 4   +  (FS-62); R F CH 2 CH 2 SCH 2 CH 2 COO − Li +  (FSA); R F CH 2 CH 2 O(CH 2 CH 2 O) w H (FSH), R F CH 2 CH 2 O(CH 2 CH 2 O) x H (FSO), R F CH 2 CH 2 O(CH 2 CH 2 O) z H (FS-300) or R F CH 2 CH 2 O(CH 2 CH 2 O) y H (FSN) where w<x<y<z, where the moiety R F  is F(CF 2 CF 2 ) 2 , and where z=1-7 (FSP, FSJ, FSO) or 1-9 (TBS, FSA).  
   
   
       5 . The inkjet wiping fluid of  claim 2 , wherein said fluorosurfactant comprises one of a FLUORAD, NOVEC or FLUORINERT series fluorosurfactant.

The inkjet wiping fluid of  claim 2 , wherein said fluorosurfactant comprises one of an ammonium perfluoroalkyl sulfonate, a potassium fluorinated alkyl carboxylate, a fluorinated alkyl polyoxyethylene ethanol, a fluorinated alkyl alkoxylate, or a fluorinated alkyl ether, a perfluorobutane, a perfluorobutane sulfonate.  
   
   
       7 . The inkjet wiping fluid of  claim 1 , wherein said non-wettable material comprises approximately 5% by volume of said inkjet wiping fluid.  
   
   
       8 . The inkjet wiping fluid of  claim 1 , wherein said inkjet wiping fluid wherein said inkjet wiping fluid comprises approximately 100% non-wettable material.  
   
   
       9 . An inkjet wiping fluid comprising: 
 an ink solvent material; and    a non-wettable material, wherein said non-wettable material includes a fluorosurfactant or a fluoropolymer.    
   
   
       10 . The inkjet wiping fluid of  claim 9 , wherein said ink solvent material comprises one of glycerol, ethylene glycol, propylene glycol, polyethylene glycol, polypropylene glycol, oxyalkylated alcohol, fatty acids, hydrocarbon acids, hydrocarbon alcohols, oxyalkylated polyols, or polyether polyols.  
   
   
       11 . The inkjet wiping fluid of  claim 10 , wherein said poly(ethylene glycol) has a molecular weight of approximately 300.  
   
   
       12 . The inkjet wiping fluid of  claim 9 , wherein said fluorosurfactant comprises a ZONYL series fluorosurfactant.  
   
   
       13 . The inkjet wiping fluid of  claim 9 , wherein said fluorosurfactant comprises one of a (R F CH 2 CH 2 O) x PO(O − NH 4   + ) y , where x+y=3 and R F ═F(CF 2 CF 2 ) 2-8  (FSP); FSP+hydrocarbon surfactant (FSJ), R F CH 2 CH 2 SO 3 H, R F CH 2 CH 2 SO 3   − NH 4   +  (TBS); C 6 F 13 CH 2 CH 2 SO 3 H, C 6 F 13 CH 2 CH 2 SO 3   − NH 4   +  (FS-62); R F CH 2 CH 2 SCH 2 CH 2 COO − Li +  (FSA); R F CH 2 CH 2 O(CH 2 CH 2 O) w H (FSH), R F CH 2 CH 2 O(CH 2 CH 2 O) x H (FSO), R F CH 2 CH 2 O(CH 2 CH 2 O) z H (FS-300) or R F CH 2 CH 2 O(CH 2 CH 2 O) y H (FSN) where w<x<y<z, where the moiety R F  is F(CF 2 CF 2 ) 2 , and where z=1-7 (FSP, FSJ, FSO) or 1-9 (TBS, FSA).  
   
   
       14 . The inkjet wiping fluid of  claim 9 , wherein said fluorosurfactant comprises one of a FLUORAD series, NOVEC series or FLUORINERT series fluorosurfactant.

The inkjet wiping fluid of  claim 9 , wherein said fluorosurfactant comprises one of an ammonium perfluoroalkyl sulfonate, a potassium fluorinated alkyl carboxylate, a fluorinated alkyl polyoxyethylene ethanol, a fluorinated alkyl alkoxylate, a fluorinated alkyl ether, a perfluorobutane or a perfluorobutane sulfonate.  
   
   
       16 . The inkjet wiping fluid of  claim 9 , wherein said non-wettable material comprises approximately 5% by volume of said inkjet wiping fluid.  
   
   
       17 . The inkjet wiping fluid of  claim 9 , wherein said inkjet wiping fluid comprises approximately 100% non-wettable material.  
   
   
       18 . An inkjet cleaning unit comprising: 
 a body;    a reservoir formed in said body, said reservoir housing an inkjet wiping fluid that includes a non-wettable material; and    an applicator wick fluidly coupled to said reservoir, wherein said applicator wick is configured to transport said inkjet wiping fluid from said reservoir to a surface of an inkjet material dispenser.    
   
   
       19 . The inkjet cleaning unit of  claim 18 , wherein said non-wettable material comprises one of a fluorosurfactant or a fluoropolymer.  
   
   
       20 . The inkjet cleaning unit of  claim 19 , wherein said fluorosurfactant comprises a ZONYL series fluorosurfactant.  
   
   
       21 . The inkjet cleaning unit of  claim 19 , wherein said fluorosurfactant comprises one of a (R F CH 2 CH 2 O) x PO(O − NH 4   + ) y , where x+y=3 and R F ═F(CF 2 CF 2 ) 2-8  (FSP); FSP+hydrocarbon surfactant (FSJ), R F CH 2 CH 2 SO 3 H, R F CH 2 CH 2 SO 3   − NH 4   +  (TBS); C 6 F 13 CH 2 CH 2 SO 3 H, C 6 F 13 CH 2 CH 2 SO 3   − NH 4   +  (FS-62); R F CH 2 CH 2 SCH 2 CH 2 COO − Li +  (FSA); R F CH 2 CH 2 O(CH 2 CH 2 O) w H (FSH), R F CH 2 CH 2 O(CH 2 CH 2 O) x H (FSO), R F CH 2 CH 2 O(CH 2 CH 2 O) z H (FS-300) or R F CH 2 CH 2 O(CH 2 CH 2 O) y H (FSN) where w<x<y<z, where the moiety R F  is F(CF 2 CF 2 ) 2 , and where z=1-7 (FSP, FSJ, FSO) or 1-9 (TBS, FSA).  
   
   
       22 . The inkjet cleaning unit of  claim 19 , wherein said fluorosurfactant comprises one of a FLUORAD series, NOVEC series, or FLUORINERT series fluorosurfactant.

The inkjet cleaning unit of  claim 19 , wherein said fluorosurfactant comprises one of an ammonium perfluoroalkyl sulfonate, a potassium fluorinated alkyl carboxylate, a fluorinated alkyl polyoxyethylene ethanol, a fluorinated alkyl alkoxylate, a fluorinated alkyl ether, a perfluorbutane or a perfluorobutane sulfonate.  
   
   
       24 . The inkjet cleaning unit of  claim 18 , wherein said non-wettable material comprises approximately 5% by volume of said inkjet wiping fluid.  
   
   
       25 . The inkjet cleaning unit of  claim 18 , wherein said inkjet wiping fluid comprises approximately 100% non-wettable material.  
   
   
       26 . The inkjet cleaning unit of  claim 18 , wherein said inkjet wiping fluid comprises: 
 an ink solvent material; and    a non-wettable material, wherein said non-wettable material includes a fluorosurfactant or a fluoropolymer.    
   
   
       27 . The inkjet cleaning unit of  claim 26 , wherein said ink solvent material comprises one of glycerol, ethylene glycol, propylene glycol, polyethylene glycol, polypropylene glycol, oxyalkylated alcohol, fatty acids, hydrocarbon acids, hydrocarbon alcohols, oxyalkylated polyols, or polyether polyols.  
   
   
       28 . The inkjet cleaning unit of  claim 27 , wherein said poly(ethylene glycol) has a molecular weight of approximately 300.  
   
   
       29 . An image forming system comprising: 
 an inkjet material dispenser;    an ink source associated with said inkjet material dispenser; and    an inkjet cleaning unit configured to clean said inkjet material dispenser including a body, a reservoir formed in said body, said reservoir housing an inkjet wiping fluid that includes a non-wettable material, and an applicator wick fluidly coupled to said reservoir, wherein said applicator wick is configured to transport said inkjet wiping fluid from said reservoir to a surface of an inkjet material dispenser.    
   
   
       30 . The system of  claim 29 , wherein said non-wettable material comprises one of a fluorosurfactant or a fluoropolymer.

The system of  claim 30 , wherein said fluorosurfactant comprises one of a (R F CH 2 CH 2 O) x PO(O − NH 4   + ) y , where x+y= 3  and R F ═F(CF 2 CF 2 ) 2-8  (FSP); FSP+hydrocarbon surfactant (FSJ); one of R F CH 2 CH 2 SO 3 H, R F CH 2 CH 2 SO 3   − NH 4   +  (TBS), C 6 F 13 CH 2 CH 2 SO 3 H, C 6 F 13 CH 2 CH 2 SO 3   − NH 4   +  (FS-62), R F CH 2 CH 2 SCH 2 CH 2 COO − Li +  (FSA), R F CH 2 CH 2 O(CH 2 CH 2 O) w H (FSH), R F CH 2 CH 2 O(CH 2 CH 2 O) x H (FSO), R F CH 2 CH 2 O(CH 2 CH 2 O) z H (FS-300) or R F CH 2 CH 2 O(CH 2 CH 2 O) y H (FSN) where w<x<y<z, where the moiety R F  is F(CF 2 CF 2 ) 2 , and where z=1-7 (FSP, FSJ, FSO) or 1-9 (TBS, FSA); and one of ammonium perfluoroalkyl sulfonate; a potassium fluorinated alkyl carboxylate; a fluorinated alkyl polyoxyethylene ethanol; a fluorinated alkyl alkoxylate; a fluorinated alkyl ether; a perfluorobutane; or a perfluorobutane sulfonate.  
   
   
       32 . The system of  claim 29 , wherein said non-wettable material comprises approximately 5% by volume of said inkjet wiping fluid.  
   
   
       33 . The system of  claim 29 , wherein said inkjet wiping fluid comprises approximately 100% non-wettable material.  
   
   
       34 . The system of  claim 29 , wherein said inkjet wiping fluid comprises: 
 an ink solvent material; and    a non-wettable material, wherein said non-wettable material includes a fluorosurfactant or a fluoropolymer.    
   
   
       35 . The system of  claim 34 , wherein said ink solvent material comprises one of glycerol, ethylene glycol, propylene glycol, polyethylene glycol, polypropylene glycol, oxyalkylated alcohol, fatty acids, hydrocarbon acids, hydrocarbon alcohols, oxyalkylated polyols, or polyether polyols.  
   
   
       36 . A method for reducing puddling on an inkjet printhead comprising wiping said printhead with a wiping fluid containing a non-wettable material.  
   
   
       37 . The method of  claim 36 , wherein said non-wettable material comprises an ink solvent material and one of a fluorosurfactant or a fluoropolymer.  
   
   
       38 . The method of  claim 37 , wherein said fluorosurfactant comprises one of a (R F CH 2 CH 2 O) x  PO(O − NH 4   + ) y , where x+y= 3  and R F ═F(CF 2 CF 2 ) 2-8  (FSP); FSP+hydrocarbon surfactant (FSJ); one of R F CH 2 CH 2 SO 3 H, R F CH 2 CH 2 SO 3   − NH 4   +  (TBS), C 6 F 13 CH 2 CH 2 SO 3 H, C 6 F 13 CH 2 CH 2 SO 3   − NH 4   +  (FS-62), R F CH 2 CH 2 SCH 2 CH 2 COO − Li +  (FSA), R F CH 2 CH 2 O(CH 2 CH 2 O) w H (FSH), R F CH 2 CH 2 O(CH 2 CH 2 O) x H (FSO), R F CH 2 CH 2 O(CH 2 CH 2 O) z H (FS-300) or R F CH 2 CH 2 O(CH 2 CH 2 O) y H (FSN) where w<x<y<z, where the moiety R F  is F(CF 2 CF 2 ) 2 , and where z=1-7 (FSP, FSJ, FSO) or 1-9 (TBS, FSA); and one of ammonium perfluoroalkyl sulfonate; a potassium fluorinated alkyl carboxylate; a fluorinated alkyl polyoxyethylene ethanol; a fluorinated alkyl alkoxylate; a fluorinated alkyl ether; a perfluorobutane; or a perfluorobutane sulfonate.

The method of  claim 37 , wherein said ink solvent material comprises one of glycerol, ethylene glycol, propylene glycol, polyethylene glycol, polypropylene glycol, oxyalkylated alcohol, fatty acids, hydrocarbon acids, hydrocarbon alcohols, oxyalkylated polyols, or polyether polyols.  
   
   
       40 . The method of  claim 36 , wherein said non-wettable material comprises approximately 5% by volume of said inkjet wiping fluid.  
   
   
       41 . The method of  claim 36 , wherein said inkjet wiping fluid comprises approximately 100% non-wettable material.  
   
   
       42 . A method for cleaning a printhead comprising: 
 applying an inkjet wiping fluid to an orifice plate of said printhead;    wherein said inkjet wiping fluid includes an ink solvent material and one of a fluorosurfactant or a fluoropolymer.    
   
   
       43 . The method of  claim 42 , wherein said fluorosurfactant comprises one of a (R F CH 2 CH 2 O) x  PO(O − NH 4   + ) y , where x+y= 3  and R F  F(CF 2 CF 2 ) 2-8  (FSP); FSP+hydrocarbon surfactant (FSJ); one of R F CH 2 CH 2 SO 3 H, R F CH 2 CH 2 SO 3   − NH 4   +  (TBS), C 6 F 13 CH 2 CH 2 SO 3 H, C 6 F 13 CH 2 CH 2 SO 3   − NH 4   +  (FS-62), R F CH 2 CH 2 SCH 2 CH 2 COO − Li +  (FSA), R F CH 2 CH 2 O(CH 2 CH 2 O) w H (FSH), R F CH 2 CH 2 O(CH 2 CH 2 O) x H (FSO), R F CH 2 CH 2 O(CH 2 CH 2 O) z H (FS-300) or R F CH 2 CH 2 O(CH 2 CH 2 O) y H (FSN) where w<x<y<z, where the moiety R F  is F(CF 2 CF 2 ) 2 , and where z=1-7 (FSP, FSJ, FSO) or 1-9 (TBS, FSA); and one of ammonium perfluoroalkyl sulfonate; a potassium fluorinated alkyl carboxylate; a fluorinated alkyl polyoxyethylene ethanol; a fluorinated alkyl alkoxylate; a fluorinated alkyl ether; a perfluorobutane; or a perfluorobutane sulfonate.

The method of  claim 42 , wherein said ink solvent material comprises one of glycerol, ethylene glycol, propylene glycol, polyethylene glycol, polypropylene glycol, oxyalkylated alcohol, fatty acids, hydrocarbon acids, hydrocarbon alcohols, oxyalkylated polyols, or polyether polyols.  
   
   
       45 . The method of  claim 42 , wherein said fluorosurfactant or said fluoropolymer comprises approximately 5% by volume of said inkjet wiping fluid.  
   
   
       46 . The method of  claim 42 , wherein said inkjet wiping fluid comprises approximately 100% fluorosurfactant or fluoropolymer.  
   
   
       47 . A means for reducing ink puddling on an inkjet orifice plate comprising: 
 a means for dissolving ink; and    a means for preventing a wetting of a surface.    
   
   
       48 . The means for reducing ink puddling on an inkjet orifice plate of  claim 47 , wherein said means for preventing a wetting of a surface comprises a fluorosurfactant or a fluoropolymer.  
   
   
       49 . The means for reducing ink puddling on an inkjet orifice plate of  claim 47 , wherein said means for dissolving ink comprises one of glycerol, ethylene glycol, propylene glycol, polyethylene glycol, polypropylene glycol, oxyalkylated alcohol, fatty acids, hydrocarbon acids, hydrocarbon alcohols, oxyalkylated polyols, or polyether polyols.  
   
   
       50 . The means for reducing ink puddling on an inkjet orifice plate of  claim 49 , wherein said poly(ethylene glycol) has a molecular weight of approximately 300.
