Abstract
An apparatus for creating a water-tight seal around roof pipes extending upward on a roof surface is disclosed. Also disclosed is a method for sealing a joint around a roof pipe by securing the apparatus to the roof around the pipe.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modified1 . An apparatus for creating a water tight seal around roof pipes, comprising:
a. a donut-like structure having a center bore that fits around a pipe extending upwards on a roof, the donut-like structure having an upper surface and a lower surface; b. one or more layers of adhesive applied on the lower surface of the donut-like structure; c. a release liner applied upon the one or more adhesive layers.
2 . The apparatus as recited in claim 1 , wherein the donut-like structure is bisected.
3 . The apparatus as recited in claim 2 , wherein the bisected donut-like structure comprises two halves.
4 . The apparatus as recited in claim 3 , wherein each of the halves has a first end and a second end.
5 . The apparatus as recited in claim 4 , wherein the first and second ends of each of said halves are provided with an adhesive layer and release liner on the adhesive layer.
6 . The apparatus as recited in claim 1 , wherein the one or more layers of adhesive are selected from the group consisting of polyisobutenes (PIB), polybutenes, polyisoprene, butyl rubber, styrene-isoprene-styrene (SIS), styrene-butadiene-styrene (SBS), styrene-ethylene-butadiene-styrene (SEBS), acrylics, polyurethanes, atactic polypropylene (APP) or a suitable mixture thereof.
7 . The apparatus as recited in claim 1 , wherein the release liner is selected from the group consisting of waxed paper, polycoated paper, film-based paper or plastic.
8 . The apparatus as recited in claim 1 , wherein the donut-like structure has a height in the range from approximately 1 inch to 4 inches.
9 . The apparatus as recited in claim 1 , wherein the donut-like structure has a width in the range from approximately ½ inch to 6 inches.
10 . The apparatus as recited in claim 1 , wherein the center bore of the donut-like structure has an interior diameter in the range from approximately 2 inches to 36 inches.
11 . The apparatus as recited in claim 1 , wherein a gap formed between the donut-like structure is filled with a pourable sealant.
12 . A method for sealing a joint around a pipe extending upwards on a roof surface, the method comprising the steps of:
a. a fitting a donut-like structure around the pipe, the structure having an upper surface and a lower surface, the lower surface having one or more layers of adhesive layers and a release liner applied thereon b. lifting the donut-like structure and peeling the release layer from the lower surface of the donut-like structure to expose the one or more adhesive layers; c. repositioning the donut-like structure around the roof pipe such that the one or more adhesive layers adhere to the roof surface; d. applying pressure on the donut-like structure to create a tight seal around the pipe.
13 . The method as recited in claim 12 , wherein the one or more layers of adhesive are selected from the group consisting of polyisobutenes (PIB), polybutenes, polyisoprene, butyl rubber, styrene-isoprene-styrene (SIS), styrene-butadiene-styrene (SBS), styrene-ethylene-butadiene-styrene (SEBS), acrylics, polyurethanes, atactic polypropylene (APP) or a suitable mixture thereof.
14 . The method as recited in claim 12 , wherein the release liner is selected from the group consisting of waxed paper, polycoated paper, film-based paper or plastic.
15 . The method as recited in claim 12 , wherein the donut-like structure is bisected.
16 . The method as recited in claim 15 , wherein the bisected donut-like structure comprises two halves.
17 . The method as recited in claim 12 , further comprising the step of pouring a sealant in a gap formed between the roof pipe and the donut-like structure.
18 . An apparatus for creating a water tight seal around roof pipes, comprising:
a. a donut-like structure that fits around a pipe extending upwards on a roof, the donut-like structure having an upper surface and a lower surface; and b. double sided adhesive tape applied on the lower surface of the structure, the tape having a release liner on the exposed side.
19 . The apparatus as recited in claim 18 , wherein the donut-like structure is bisected.
20 . The apparatus as recited in claim 19 , wherein the bisected donut-like structure comprises two halves.
21 . The apparatus as recited in claim 20 , wherein each of the halves has a first end and a second end.
22 . The apparatus as recited in claim 21 , wherein the first and second ends of each of said halves are provided with an adhesive layer and release liner on the adhesive layer.
23 . The apparatus as recited in claim 18 , wherein the release liner is selected from the group consisting of waxed paper, polycoated paper, film-based paper or plastic.
24 . The apparatus as recited in claim 18 , wherein the double-sided adhesive tape has a thickness in the range of approximately 2 to 90 mils.
25 . The apparatus as recited in claim 24 , wherein the double-sided tape has a thickness of approximately 50 mils.
26 . An apparatus for creating a water tight seal around roof pipes, comprising:
a. a bisected donut-like structure having a center bore that fits around a pipe extending upwards on a roof, the donut-like structure having an upper surface and a lower surface; b. one or more layers of adhesive applied on the lower surface of the donut-like structure; and c. a release liner applied upon the one or more adhesive layers.
27 . The apparatus as recited in claim 26 , wherein the bisected donut-like structure comprises two halves.
28 . The apparatus as recited in claim 27 , wherein each of the halves has a first end and a second end.
29 . The apparatus as recited in claim 28 , wherein the first and second ends of each of said halves are provided with an adhesive layer and release liner on the adhesive layer.
30 . The apparatus as recited in claim 26 , wherein the one or more layers of adhesive are selected from the group consisting of polyisobutenes (PIB), polybutenes, polyisoprene, butyl rubber, styrene-isoprene-styrene (SIS), styrene-butadiene-styrene (SBS), styrene-ethylene-butadiene-styrene (SEBS), acrylics, polyurethanes, atactic polypropylene (APP) or a suitable mixture thereof.
31 . The apparatus as recited in claim 26 , wherein the release liner is selected from the group consisting of waxed paper, polycoated paper, film-based paper or plastic.
