Abstract

A method of configuring a transmitter to transmit information comprises determining a piconet in which the transmitter operates, determining a transmission scheme according to the piconet, and transmitting data according to the transmission scheme. The transmission scheme includes frequency information. A transmission system comprises a transmitter configured to transmit data, and a controller coupled to the transmitter, configured to determine a piconet in which the transmitter operates and to determine a transmission scheme according to the piconet, wherein the transmitter transmits data according to the transmission scheme. A computer program product for configuring a transmitter to transmit a communication signal, the computer program product being embodied in a computer readable medium and comprising computer instructions for determining a piconet in which the transmitter operates, determining a transmission scheme according to the piconet, the transmission scheme including frequency information, and instructing a transmitter to transmit data according to the transmission scheme.

1 . A method of configuring a transmitter to transmit information, comprising: 
 determining a piconet in which the transmitter operates;    determining a transmission scheme according to the piconet, the transmission scheme including frequency information; and    transmitting data according to the transmission scheme.    
   
   
       2 . A method as recited in  claim 1 , wherein determining the transmission scheme includes looking up the transmission scheme in a table that maps a plurality of piconets to a plurality of transmission schemes.  
   
   
       3 . A method as recited in  claim 1 , wherein determining the transmission scheme includes detecting one or more neighboring transmission schemes used by neighboring piconets and determining the transmission scheme that does not substantially interfere with said one or more neighboring transmission schemes.  
   
   
       4 . A method as recited in  claim 1 , wherein transmitting data according to the transmission scheme includes selectively activating and deactivating a component of the transmitter's circuit, the selective activation and deactivation being based at least in part on the transmission scheme.  
   
   
       5 . A method as recited in  claim 4 , wherein the component includes a voltage controlled oscillator.  
   
   
       6 . A method as recited in  claim 4 , wherein the component includes a phase locked loop.  
   
   
       7 . A method as recited in  claim 1 , wherein transmitting data according to the transmission scheme includes: 
 grouping a plurality of active time slots into a plurality of sub-frames, wherein each of the sub-frames includes a plurality of contiguous active time slots;    transmitting data during a first one of the plurality of sub-frames;    waiting during an inactive period; and    transmitting data during a second one of the plurality of sub-frames.    
   
   
       8 . A method as recited in  claim 7 , further comprising comparing the inactive period and a settling time of a component of the transmitter circuit, and in the event that the inactive period is greater or equal to the settling time, deactivating the component of the transmitter during the inactive period.  
   
   
       9 . A transmission system comprising: 
 a transmitter configured to transmit data; and    a controller coupled to the transmitter, configured to determine a piconet in which the transmitter operates and to determine a transmission scheme according to the piconet;    wherein    the transmitter transmits data according to the transmission scheme.    
   
   
       10 . A transmission system as recited in  claim 9 , wherein the controller is configured to determine the transmission scheme including by looking up the transmission scheme in a table that maps a plurality of piconets to a plurality of transmission schemes.  
   
   
       11 . A transmission system as recited in  claim 9 , wherein the controller is configured to determine the transmission scheme including by detecting one or more neighboring transmission schemes used by neighboring piconets and determining the transmission scheme that does not substantially interfere with said one or more neighboring transmission schemes.  
   
   
       12 . A transmission system as recited in  claim 9 , wherein the transmitter is configured to transmit data according to the transmission scheme including by selectively activating and deactivating a component of the transmitter's circuit, the selective activation and deactivation being based at least in part on the transmission scheme.  
   
   
       13 . A transmission system as recited in  claim 12 , wherein the component includes a voltage controlled oscillator.  
   
   
       14 . A transmission system as recited in  claim 9 , wherein the transmitter is configured to transmit data according to the transmission scheme including by:  
     grouping a plurality of active time slots into a plurality of sub-frames, wherein each of the sub-frames includes a plurality of contiguous active time slots; 
 transmitting data during a first one of the plurality of sub-frames;  
 waiting during an inactive period; and  
 transmitting data during a second one of the plurality of sub-frames.  
 
   
   
       15 . A transmission system as recited in  claim 9 , wherein the transmitter is further configured to compare the inactive period and settling time of a component of the transmitter circuit, and in the event that the inactive period is greater or equal to the settling time, deactivating the component of the transmitter during the inactive period.  
   
   
       16 . A computer program product for configuring a transmitter to transmit a communication signal, the computer program product being embodied in a computer readable medium and comprising computer instructions for: 
 determining a piconet in which the transmitter operates;    determining a transmission scheme according to the piconet, the transmission scheme including frequency information; and    instructing a transmitter to transmit data according to the transmission scheme.    
   
   
       17 . A computer program product as recited in  claim 16 , wherein determining the transmission scheme includes looking up the transmission scheme in a table that maps a plurality of piconets to a plurality of transmission schemes.  
   
   
       18 . A computer program product as recited in  claim 16 , wherein determining the transmission scheme includes detecting one or more neighboring transmission schemes used by neighboring piconets and determining the transmission scheme that does not substantially interfere with said one or more neighboring transmission schemes.

A computer program product as recited in  claim 16 , wherein instructing a transmitter to transmit data according to the transmission scheme includes instructing the transmitter to selectively activating and deactivating a component of the transmitter's circuit, the selective activation and deactivation being based at least in part on the transmission scheme.  
   
   
       20 . A computer program product as recited in  claim 16 , wherein instructing a transmitter to transmit data according to the transmission scheme includes: 
 grouping a plurality of active time slots into a plurality of sub-frames, wherein each of the sub-frames includes a plurality of contiguous active time slots;    transmitting data during a first one of the plurality of sub-frames;    waiting during an inactive period; and    transmitting data during a second one of the plurality of sub-frames.
