Abstract
A baseplate for swaging a disk drive head suspension to an arm having a thickness and a neutral axis. The baseplate includes a boss tower having an outer diameter high point configured to be located within about ±6% of the arm thickness from the neutral axis when swaged to an arm.

exact text as granted — not AI-modified1 . A method for manufacturing a baseplate of the type used to mount a disk drive head suspension to an arm, including:
determining the thickness and neutral axis of the arm to which the baseplate will be attached; and manufacturing a baseplate including a boss tower having an outer diameter high point that will be located within about ±6% of the determined arm thickness from the determined arm neutral axis.
2 . The method of claim 1 and further including:
mounting the baseplate to a head suspension; positioning the baseplate and head suspension on an arm with the boss tower extending into a hole in the arm; and swaging the baseplate to the arm by forcing the boss tower into engagement with the arm and the outer diameter high point located within about ±6% of the determined arm thickness from the determined arm neutral axis.
3 . A method for manufacturing a baseplate of the type used to mount a disk drive head suspension to an arm, including:
determining the thickness and neutral axis of the arm to which the baseplate will be attached; and manufacturing a baseplate including a boss tower having an outer diameter high point that will be located within about ±4% of the determined arm thickness from the determined arm neutral axis.
4 . The method of claim 3 and further including:
mounting the baseplate to a head suspension; positioning the baseplate and head suspension on an arm with the boss tower extending into a hole in the arm; and swaging the baseplate to the arm by forcing the boss tower into engagement with the arm and the outer diameter high point located within about ±4% of the determined arm thickness from the determined arm neutral axis.
5 . A method for manufacturing a baseplate of the type used to mount a disk drive head suspension to an arm, including:
determining the thickness of the arm to which the baseplate will be attached; and manufacturing a baseplate including a boss tower having an outer diameter high point that will be located within about ±6% of the center of the determined arm thickness.
6 . The method of claim 5 and further including:
mounting the baseplate to a head suspension; positioning the baseplate and head suspension on an arm with the boss tower extending into a hole in the arm; and swaging the baseplate to the arm by forcing the boss tower into engagement with the arm and the outer diameter high point located within about ±6% of the center of the determined arm thickness.
7 . A method for manufacturing a baseplate of the type used to mount a disk drive head suspension to an arm, including:
determining the thickness of the arm to which the baseplate will be attached; and manufacturing a baseplate including a boss tower having an outer diameter high point that will be located within about ±4% of the center of the determined arm thickness.
8 . The method of claim 7 and further including:
