Abstract

A mobile client is a motor vehicle or a trailer adapted for the automated production of forms, shapes, or patterns. The mobile client has a mobile client computer system and a production component such as a plotter. A library of patterns, with predetermined dimensions customized to particular vehicle models, is kept in a database. The patterns are produced by sending pattern production commands from the mobile client computer system to the production component, on site, and the patterns are applied to a customer vehicle.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
1 . A vehicle finish protection method, for protecting part of a customer vehicle, comprising:
disposing a mobile client computer system and a production component in or on a vehicle to provide a mobile client; sending pattern production commands from the mobile client computer system to the production component; producing a patterned article, by the production component, according to the pattern production commands; and disposing the patterned article on the customer vehicle to protect the vehicle finish.

2 . The vehicle finish protection method as set forth in claim 1 , further comprising, prior to sending the pattern production commands from the mobile client computer system to the production component, generating a transaction record, wherein the transaction record is generated each time the sending of the pattern production commands is performed.

3 . The vehicle finish protection method as set forth in claim 2 , further comprising prohibiting the mobile client computer system from the set of operations consisting of copying, storing, and transmitting the pattern production commands.

4 . The vehicle finish protection method as set forth in claim 1 , wherein the vehicle is a motor vehicle.

5 . The vehicle finish protection method as set forth in claim 1 , wherein the pattern production commands are loaded into the mobile client computer system prior to being sent to the production component.

6 . The vehicle finish protection method as set forth in claim 5 , wherein the pattern production commands loaded into the mobile client computer system are from a library of pattern production commands.

7 . The vehicle finish protection method as set forth in claim 6 , wherein the library of pattern production commands comprises a database.

8 . The vehicle finish protection method as set forth in claim 7 , wherein the database is a relational database, and wherein retrieval from the database is performed using a pattern number to indicate a set of one or more patterns.

9 . The vehicle finish protection method as set forth in claim 5 , wherein the mobile client computer system receives the pattern production commands via a wireless network connection.

10 . The vehicle finish protection method as set forth in claim 5 , wherein the pattern production commands loaded into the mobile client computer system are from a remote library server.

11 . A pattern production vehicle system, intended for use in protecting the finish of customer vehicles, comprising:
a mobile client including a vehicle, a mobile client computer system, and a production component; the production component and the mobile client computer system being disposed in or on the vehicle and being in communication with each other; the mobile client computer system sending pattern production commands to the production component; the production component producing a patterned article in response to the pattern production commands; and the patterned article produced by the production component being one or more patterns of a vehicle surface protection application kit; wherein the one or more patterns of the vehicle surface protection application kit are produced, and applied to a customer vehicle, at the location of the mobile client.

12 . The vehicle finish protection system as set forth in claim 11 , further comprising generating a transaction record, prior to sending the pattern production commands to the production component, wherein the transaction record is generated each time the sending of the pattern production commands is performed.

13 . The vehicle finish protection system as set forth in claim 12 , wherein the mobile client computer system is prohibited from the set of operations consisting of copying, storing, and transmitting the pattern production commands.

14 . The vehicle finish protection system as set forth in claim 11 , wherein the vehicle is a motor vehicle.

15 . The vehicle finish protection system as set forth in claim 11 , wherein the pattern production commands are loaded into the mobile client computer system prior to being sent to the production component.

16 . The vehicle finish protection system as set forth in claim 15 , wherein the pattern production commands loaded into the mobile client computer system are from a library of pattern production commands.

17 . The vehicle finish protection system as set forth in claim 16 , wherein the library of pattern production commands comprises a database.

18 . The vehicle finish protection system as set forth in claim 17 , wherein the database is a relational database, and wherein retrieval from the database is performed using a pattern number to indicate a set of one or more patterns.

19 . The vehicle finish protection system as set forth in claim 15 , wherein the mobile client computer system receives the pattern production commands via a wireless network connection.

20 . The vehicle finish protection system as set forth in claim 15 , wherein the pattern production commands loaded into the mobile client computer system are from a remote library server.
