Abstract

A method and system is provided for archiving data within a client management tool. The archiving methods include accessing a set of client management data and creating an archive file. The method may further include reactivating an archive file, deleting an archive file, and reactivating a deleted archive file.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
1 - 14 . (canceled)

15 . A method of archiving client management data within a client management tool, said method comprising:
accessing a set of client management data from within the client management tool, the client management data comprising at least performance monitoring data and capacity planning data; and creating an archive file for archival storage from within the client management tool, wherein the archive file comprises at least a selective, independently archivable portion of the client management data in the set.

16 . The method as recited in claim 15 , further comprising:
automatically archiving client management data at a selected time interval.

17 . The method as recited in claim 16 , wherein the selected time interval is one year.

18 . The method as recited in claim 16 , wherein a user selects the time interval.

19 . The method as recited in claim 15 , further comprising: deleting the archive file.

20 . The method as recited in claim 19 , further comprising:
automatically deleting the archive file after a selected period of time.

21 . The method as recited in claim 19 , further comprising:
 reactivating the deleted archive file.

22 . The method as recited in claim 15 , further comprising:
 reactivating the archive file.

23 . The method as recited in claim 15 , wherein a first portion of the archive file contains raw data over a first period of time and wherein a second portion of the archive file contains averaged data over a second period of time.

24 . The method as recited in claim 23 , wherein the first period of time is approximately 90 days.

25 . The method as recited in claim 23 , wherein the second portion of the archived file includes data averaged on a per day basis.

26 . The method as recited in claim 23 , wherein the second period of time is approximately one year minus the first period of time.

27 . The method as recited in claim 15 , wherein a frequency of measuring the capacity planning data is different from a frequency of measuring the performance monitoring data.

28 . The method as recited in claim 15 , wherein the archive file is divided into a plurality of segments and distributed among a plurality of storage devices.

       29 . A computer-readable medium having computer-executable instructions for performing the steps recited in claim 15 .

30 . A computer system having a processor, a memory, and an operating environment, the computer system to execute the steps recited in claim 15 .

31 . A computer-readable medium, the computer readable medium having recorded therein modules to archive client management data, comprising:
an access module to access a set of client management data from within a client management tool, the client management data comprising at least performance monitoring data and capacity planning data, the performance monitoring data being collected at a first interval and the capacity planning data being collected at a second interval; and an archive module, communicating with the access module, to create an archive file for archival storage from within the client management tool, wherein the archive file comprises at least a selective, independently archivable portion of the client management data in the set.

32 . The computer-readable medium as recited in claim 31 , wherein a frequency of collecting the capacity planning data is different from a frequency of collecting the performance monitoring data.

       33 . A computer system, comprising:
an access module within a client management tool to access a set of client management data, the client management data comprising at least performance monitoring data and capacity planning data, the performance monitoring data being collected at a first interval and the capacity planning data being collected at a second interval; and an archive module, communicating with the access module, the archive module operating within the client management tool to create an archive file for archival storage, wherein the archive file includes at least a selective, independently archivable portion of the client management data in the set.

34 . The computer system as recited in claim 33 , wherein the archive file is divided into a plurality of segments and distributed among a plurality of storage devices.
