Abstract

A burner assembly includes a substantially annular two-piece burner head having a base and a top. Gas-emitting orifices in the burner are directed inwardly and upwardly, but not outwardly. A restrictor plate controls the flow of secondary air through the burner assembly.

. The burner assembly of claim 4 , said cover having an outer edge defining an outer lip engaging said base and an inner edge defining an inner lip engaging said base.

. The burner assembly of claim 5 , said inner edge being lower than said outer edge.

. The burner assembly of claim 6 , some of said orifices being near said inner edge and lower than said outer edge.

. The burner assembly of claim 6 , said inner lip having an angular surface directed laterally and upwardly from said inner edge.

. The burner assembly of claim 1 , including a monolithic body forming first and second gas receivers, first and second venturis and first and second burner head bases; and said burner assembly having first and second burner head covers removable engaged on said first and second burner head bases.

. The burner assembly of claim 9 , said first burner head base and said second burner head base configured with said first and second venturis, respectively, for developing gas flows through said first and second burner head bases directed oppositely with respect to each other.

. The burner assembly of claim 1 , including an airflow restrictor plate limiting airflow through the center of said annular burner head.

. The burner assembly of claim 11 , said restrictor plate and said burner head defining an annular gap therebetween.

. The burner assembly of claim 11 , said restrictor plate defining an aperture therethrough substantially at the center of said restrictor plate.

. The burner assembly of claim 11 , said restrictor plate including a slot for holding a pilot light burner head.

. The burner assembly of claim 1 , said gas-emitting orifices provided in both said upwardly facing and said inwardly facing surfaces of said burner head.

. A gas fuel burner head comprising:
a substantially annular base; a substantially annular cover having gas-emitting orifices on only at least one of upwardly and inwardly facing surfaces thereof; and a restrictor plate limiting airflow through the center of said substantially annular base and top.

. The burner head of claim 16 , said restrictor plate and said cover defining a space between an outer edge of said plate and an inner surface of said cover.

. The burner head of claim 17 , said plate having a hole therethrough.

. The burner head of claim 18 , said plate defining a slot for holding a pilot light.

. The burner head of claim 16 , said cover having inner and outer edges engaging said base and said inner edge being lower than said outer edge.

. The burner head of claim 20 , some of said orifices being lower than said outer edge.

. A burner head comprising:
a substantially hollow annular body for directing gas flow therethrough, said body having only at least one of upwardly and inwardly facing orifices for emitting gaseous fuel to be burned; and means controlling the flow of air through said substantially annular body.

. The burner head of claim 22 , said means including a restrictor plate disposed in a central opening defined by said substantially annular body, said restrictor plate being spaced from said substantially annular body to define an airflow gap between said restrictor plate and said substantially annular body.
