Abstract

The invention provides a system and a method for improving the delivery of volatiles by providing a stabilized generally laminar gas flow adjacent a volatile-containing molten pool, ensuring an enlarged molten pool by close regulation of thermal transfer between a monolithic mass and the surrounding atmosphere, and minimizing volatile loss through unregulated thermal gradients.

1 . A volatile release system, comprising: 
 a candle on a first surface;    said candle having a wick;    said candle including a plurality of volatiles disposed within wax;    a chimney on said first surface extending equidistant to an outer surface of said candle;    said chimney defining a top and a bottom openings;    said top opening being an unrestricted opening;    a plurality of air inlets extending through said chimney, proximate both said first surface and said outer surface of said candle;    a top of each said plurality of air inlets being between a top surface of said candle and said first surface;    said chimney extending above said top surface of said candle; and    an aspect ratio Y, of a height of said chimney to a diameter of said chimney, being 0.5≦Y≦3.50, whereby during a use when said wick is lit, a laminar air flow forms proximate said outer surface and draws said volatiles away from said wick and out said top opening.    
   
   
       2 . A volatile release system, according to  claim 1 , wherein: 
 a ratio X, of a diameter of said top opening to a diameter of said bottom section is: 60%≦X≦160%.    
   
   
       3 . A volatile release system, according to  claim 2 , wherein: 
 said ratio X is: 80%≦X≦120%.    
   
   
       4 . A volatile release system, according to  claim 3 , wherein: 
 said ratio X is: 95%≦X≦105%.    
   
   
       5 . A volatile release system, according to  claim 1 , wherein: 
 said aspect ratio Y is: 1.0≦Y≦2.0.    
   
   
       6 . A volatile release system, according to  claim 5 , wherein: 
 said aspect ratio Y is: 1.2≦Y≦1.8.    
   
   
       7 . A method for releasing a volatile, comprising the steps of: 
 providing a candle on a first surface; 
 said candle having a wick;  
 said candle including a plurality of volatiles disposed within wax;  
   lighting said wick; and    providing a chimney on said first surface equidistant to an outer surface of said candle, said chimney comprising: 
 a top opening and a bottom section on said chimney;  
 a plurality of air inlets extending through said chimney proximate both said first surface and said outer surface of said candle;  
 a top of each said plurality of air inlets being between a top surface of said candle and said first surface;  
 said chimney extending above said top surface of said candle; and  
 an aspect ratio Y, of a height of said chimney to a diameter of said chimney, being 0.5≦Y≦3.50, whereby after said steps of lighting said wick and providing said chimney, a laminar air flow forms proximate said outer surface and draws said volatiles away from said wick and out said top opening.  
   
   
   
       8 . A volatile release system, comprising 
 a candle on a first surface of a base plate;    said candle having a wick;    said candle including a plurality of volatiles disposed within wax;    said base plate including a plurality of air inlets on an outer surface;    a chimney extending away from said first surface, equidistant to an outer surface of said candle;    said chimney defining a top and a bottom opening;    said top opening being an unrestricted opening;    said plurality of air inlets extending through said base plate to a respective plurality of inner openings on said first surface proximate said outer surface of said candle; and    an aspect ratio Y, of a height of said chimney to a diameter of said chimney, being 0.5≦Y≦3.5, whereby during a use when said wick is lit, a laminar air flow forms proximate said outer surface and draws said volatiles away from said wick and out said top opening.    
   
   
       9 . A volatile release system, according to  claim 8  wherein: 
 a ratio X, of a diameter of said top opening to a diameter of said bottom opening is: 60%≦X≦160%.    
   
   
       10 . A volatile release system, according to  claim 9 , wherein: 
 said ratio X is: 80%≦X≦120%.    
   
   
       11 . A volatile release system, according to  claim 10 , wherein: 
 said ratio X is: 95%≦X≦105%.    
   
   
       12 . A volatile release system, according to  claim 8 , wherein: 
 respective pluralities of said air inlets and said inner openings define a plurality of closed pathways in communication between said first surface adjacent said outer surface of said candle, and an outer edge surface of said base plate.    
   
   
       13 . A volatile release system, according to  claim 12 , further comprising: 
 a recess on said first surface; and    said recess effective to receive an edge of said bottom opening of said chimney, whereby said recess prevents a movement of said chimney relative to said base plate during said use.    
   
   
       14 . A volatile release system, according to  claim 8 , wherein: 
 respective pluralities of said air inlets and said inner openings define respective open channels between said first surface adjacent said outer surface of said candle, and an outer edge surface of said base plate.    
   
   
       15 . A volatile release system, according to  claim 8 , wherein: 
 said aspect ratio Y is: 1.0≦Y≦2.0.    
   
   
       16 . A volatile release system, according to  claim 15 , wherein: 
 said aspect ratio Y is: 1.2≦Y≦1.8.    
   
   
       17 . A method for releasing a volatile, comprising the steps of: 
 providing an candle on a first surface of a base plate, 
 said candle having a wick;  
 said candle including a plurality of volatiles disposed within wax;  
 said base plate including a plurality of air inlets on an outer surface;  
 said plurality of air inlets extending through said base plate to a respective plurality of inner openings on said first surface proximate an outer surface of said candle;  
   lighting said wick; and    providing a chimney extending away from said first surface and equidistant to said outer surface of said candle, said chimney comprising: 
 a top and bottom opening on said chimney;  
 said top opening being an unrestricted opening;  
 said chimney extending above a top surface of said candle; and  
 an aspect ratio Y, of a height of said chimney to a diameter of said chimney, being 0.5≦Y≦3.50, whereby after said steps of lighting said wick and providing said chimney, a laminar air flow forms proximate said outer surface and draws said volatiles away from said wick and out said top opening.

A method for releasing a volatile, according to  claim 17 , wherein: in said step of providing a candle on a first surface of a base plate, respective pluralities of said air inlets and said inner openings define a plurality of closed pathways in communication between said first surface adjacent said outer surface of said candle, and an outer edge surface of said base plate.  
   
   
       19 . A method for releasing a volatile, according to  claim 18 , wherein: in said step of providing a candle on a first surface of a base plate, respective pluralities of said air inlets and said inner openings define respective open channels between said first surface adjacent said outer surface of said candle, and an outer edge surface of said base plate.  
   
   
       20 . A volatile release system, for improving an airflow distribution of volatiles initially disposed within a fluid substance heated by a proximate flame, comprising: 
 a chimney on a first surface supporting surface bounding said flame;    said chimney defining a top and a bottom opening;    said top opening being an unrestricted opening;    a plurality of air inlets providing airflow into said chimney proximate said first surface;    a top of each said plurality of air inlets being proximate of said flame and said first surface;    said chimney extending above a top of said flame; and    an aspect ratio Y, of a height of said chimney to a diameter of said chimney, being 0.65≦Y≦3.00, whereby during a use when said flame operates, a laminar air flow forms proximate said fluid substances and draws said volatiles away from said flame and out said top opening.    
   
   
       21 . A volatile release system, according to  claim 21 , wherein: 
 a ratio X, of a diameter of said top opening to a diameter of said bottom opening is: 60%≦X≦160%.    
   
   
       22 . A volatile release system, according to  claim 21 , wherein: 
 said ratio X is: 80%≦X≦120%.    
   
   
       23 . A volatile release system, according to  claim 22 , wherein:

       26 . A method for improving an airflow distribution of volatiles initially disposed within a fluid substance heated by a proximate flame, comprising the steps of: 
 providing a supported fluid containing said volatiles heated by said flame; 
 said supported fluid being supported on a first surface;  
   providing a chimney on said first surface equidistant to an outer surface of said flame, said chimney further comprising: 
 a top opening and a bottom section on said chimney;  
 a plurality of air inlets extending through said chimney proximate both said first surface and said flame;  
 a top of each said plurality of air inlets being proximate at least one of a top surface of said fluid substance and said first surface;  
 said chimney extending above said flame; and  
 an aspect ratio Y, of a height of said chimney to a diameter of said chimney, being 1.0≦Y≦3.50, whereby after said steps of providing said fluid and providing said chimney, a laminar air flow forms proximate said outer surface and draws said volatiles away from said fluid substance and out said top opening for improving said airflow distribution.  
   
   
   
       27 . A volatile release system, comprising: 
 a candle having at least one wick at a candle location on a first surface of a support stand;    said candle including a plurality of volatiles;    said support stand including a plurality of air inlets in flow communication with said first surface proximate said candle location;    a chimney extending away from said first surface, generally bounding said candle location, whereby at least portions of said plurality of air inlets are in flow communication with an interior of said chimney proximate said candle location; and    said chimney defining a top unrestricted opening and a bottom opening; whereby during a use, a laminar air flow forms proximate said candle and draws said volatiles suspended in a liquid wax pool created by said use away from said wick and out said top opening.    
   
   
       28 . A volatile release system, according to  claim 27 , wherein: 
 said support stand is a geometric body having an outer surface joining said first surface opposite a bottom surface; and    portions of an opening for each said air inlet being spaced about said outer surface;    
   
   
       29 . A volatile release system, according to  claim 28 , wherein: 
 said air inlets include bounded passages extending from said outer surface to said first surface, thereby providing a smooth airflow passage from an exterior of said support stand to a location proximate said candle location.    
   
   
       30 . A volatile release system, according to  claim 28 , wherein: 
 said air inlets are unbounded slots extending between said first surface and said bottom surface and dividing said outer surface into a plurality of sections, whereby said air inlets and said support stand provide an easy air flow communication from an exterior of said support stand to a location proximate said candle location.    
   
   
       31 . A volatile release system, according to  claim 27 , wherein: 
 said support stand includes a bottom support portion and an outer bounding wall positioned orthogonal to said bottom support portion;    a chamfered portion joining said bottom support portion to said outer wall portion;    a plurality of bounded air inlets extend from an exterior of said support stand to an interior; and    said bounded air inlets extending from said bottom support portion, traversing said chamfered portion, to said outer bounding wall portion, whereby upon an assembly of said system said chimney is positioned on said bottom support portion and crosses a portion of each said bounded air inlet allowing an air flow from an exterior of said chimney to an interior proximate said candle location.    
   
   
       32 . A volatile release system, comprising: 
 a candle having at least one wick at a candle location on a first surface of a support stand;    said candle including a plurality of volatiles;    said support stand including a bottom support portion and an outer bounding wall positioned orthogonal to said bottom support portion;    a chimney extending away from said first surface, generally bounding said candle location and a plurality of projecting threads on an exterior bottom portion of said chimney;    said chimney defining a top unrestricted opening and a bottom opening;    a plurality of receiving thread grooves on an interior portion of said support plate outer bounding wall enabling an adjustable threaded connection between said chimney and said support plate; and    a plurality of first side openings in said chimney proximate said bottom portion enabling an air flow from an exterior of said support stand and said chimney to said candle location, whereby during a use, a laminar air flow forms proximate said candle and draws said volatiles suspended in a liquid wax pool created by said use away from said wick and out said top opening said adjustable threaded connection allows a user to adjust a volume of said air flow.    
   
   
       33 . A volatile release system, according to  claim 32 , further comprising: 
 a plurality of second side openings in said outer bounding wall of said support stand, whereby during a threaded adjustment between said chimney and said support stand said plurality of second side openings provides an increased air flow adjustment for improved user convenience.    
   
   
       34 . A volatile release system, according to  claim 32 , further comprising: 
 means for releasably securing said candle within said candle location on said first surface, whereby said means for releasably securing minimizes unintended shifting of said candle and improves said user's safety.    
   
   
       35 . A volatile release system, according to  claim 27 , further comprising: 
 means for releasably securing said candle within said candle location on said first surface, whereby said means for releasably securing minimizes unintended shifting of said candle and improves said user's safety.    
   
   
       36 . A volatile release system, according to  claim 28 , further comprising: 
 means for releasably securing said candle within said candle location on said first surface, whereby said means for releasably securing minimizes unintended shifting of said candle and improves said user's safety.    
   
   
       37 . A volatile release system, according to  claim 27 , wherein: 
 said candle is retained at said candle location in a candle system;    said release system, further includes a candle system receiving for positioning said candle at said candle location, and candle receiving system having a curved outer surface; and    said release system further comprising means for increasing a speed of said airflow proximate a top of said candle and said candle system whereby during use, said means for increasing aids generation of said laminar air flow while providing a reagonalized air speed flow increase proximate a top of said candle.    
   
   
       38 . A volatile release system for increasing a volatile delivery from a candle including a plurality of volatiles disposed within said candle wax proximate a candle wick, said release system comprising: 
 at least a central candle region on a first surface of a support stand;    said support stand including a plurality of air inlets extending proximate said candle region;    a chimney extending away from said first surface, generally bounding said candle region;    said chimney defining a top and a bottom opening;    said top opening being an unrestricted opening; and    said plurality of air inlets being in flow communication between an exterior of said support stand and said first surface proximate said candle location.    
   
   
       39 . A volatile release system, according to  claim 38 , wherein during a use when said candle is lit, an airflow entering said air inlets flows to said first surface proximate said candle region thereby forming a laminar air flow and draws said volatiles suspended in a liquid wax pool of melted portions of said candle proximate said top opening.  
   
   
       40 . A support stand member, comprising: 
 an outer sidewall generally defining a bottom support surface;    said sidewall positioned generally orthogonal to said bottom support surface;    a chamfered edge joining said outer sidewall and said bottom support surface;    a plurality of air inlet openings spanning said chamfered edge and at least one of said outer side wall and said bottom support surface, whereby an airflow from an exterior of said support stand to an interior of said support stand is enabled said airflow provides a laminar air-distribution of proximate an ignited candle proximate said bottom support surface.
