Abstract

Adjustable foot controls are described to accommodate different rider sizes for use with a motorcycle. The adjustable gear shift assembly includes a base plate, a gear shift lever and a foot rest attached to a stud with a connector. The base plate is movably coupled along the stud. Optionally, the base plate includes a groove on its inward side that is sized to accept the stud and to allow the base plate to be selectively positioned relative to holes spaced along the stud.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
1 . An adjustable gear shift assembly for a motorcycle comprising:
a base plate having an inward and an outward side; a gear shift lever attached to the outward side of the base plate; a motorcycle frame stud; a foot rest coupled to the motorcycle frame stud with a connector, the foot rest is located on the outward side of the base plate such that the base plate is located between the motorcycle frame stud and the foot rest; and wherein the base plate includes a groove on its inward side that is sized to accept the stud and to allow the base plate to be selectively positioned relative to a plurality of holes spaced along the motorcycle frame stud.

2 . The adjustable gear shift assembly of claim 1 , wherein the stud is generally rectangular in shape, and the groove of the base plate is sized to slidably couple with the stud.

3 . The adjustable gear shift assembly of claim 1 , wherein the stud is welded to a frame of the motorcycle.

4 . The adjustable gear shift pedal assembly of claim 1 further comprising a fastener coupled between at least the base plate and the motorcycle frame stud.

5 . The adjustable gear shift pedal assembly of claim 4 , wherein the plurality of holes are each sized and shaped to receive the fastener.

6 . The adjustable gear shift pedal assembly of claim 1 further comprising:
a spacer coupler; and a shift linkage lever coupled between the spacer coupler and the base plate, and the spacer coupler is coupled between the gear shift lever and the shift linkage lever, and the spacer coupler is adapted to maintain a predetermined angle between the gear shift lever and the shift linkage lever.

7 . An adjustable motorcycle gear shift assembly comprising:
a stud; a base plate movably coupled along the stud; a gear shift lever rotatably coupled with the base plate; and a foot rest coupled with at least the base plate, wherein the position of the gear shift lever and the foot rest corresponds with the position of the base plate along the stud.

8 . The adjustable motorcycle gear shift assembly of claim 7 , wherein the base plate is slidably coupled along the stud.

9 . The adjustable motorcycle gear shift assembly of claim 7 , wherein at least one of the base plate and the stud includes a groove, and the other of the base plate and the stud is slidably received within the groove.

10 . The adjustable motorcycle gear shift assembly of claim 7 , wherein the base plate is selectively positionable along the stud.

11 . The adjustable motorcycle gear shift assembly of claim 7 , wherein the foot rest is coupled with the base plate and the stud.

12 . The adjustable motorcycle gear shift assembly of claim 7 further comprising at least one fastener coupled between at least the base plate and the stud.

13 . The adjustable motorcycle gear shift assembly of claim 12 , wherein the stud includes a plurality of openings each sized and shaped to receive the fastener.

14 . The adjustable motorcycle gear shift assembly of claim 12 , wherein the at least one fastener is coupled between the base plate, stud and foot rest.

15 . A method for making an adjustable motorcycle gear shift assembly comprising:
movably coupling a base plate along a stud; rotatably coupling a gear shift lever with the base plate; and coupling a foot rest with at least the base plate, wherein the position of the gear shift lever and the foot rest corresponds with the position of the base plate along the stud.

16 . The method for making the adjustable motorcycle gear shift assembly of claim 15 , wherein movably coupling the base plate along the stud includes slidably coupling the base plate along the stud.

17 . The method for making the adjustable motorcycle gear shift assembly of claim 15 further comprising forming a groove in at least one of the base plate and the stud, and the other of the base plate and the stud is slidably received in the groove.

18 . The method for making the adjustable motorcycle gear shift assembly of claim 15 further comprising fastening at least the base plate to the stud.

19 . The method for making the adjustable motorcycle gear shift assembly of claim 18 , wherein fastening at least the base plate to the stud includes receiving a fastener within a first opening of two or more openings in the stud.

20 . The method for making an adjustable motorcycle gear shift assembly of claim 15 further comprising:
coupling a shift linkage lever between the base plate and a spacer coupler; and coupling the gear shift lever between the spacer coupler and a cap, and the spacer coupler is adapted to maintain a predetermined angle between the gear shift lever and the shift linkage lever.
