Abstract
An electronic display system is disclosed. The system includes a first display panel having a first viewing face and the second display panel have a second viewing face. The first and second display panels are coupled by a hinged mechanism which allows the angle between the first and second viewing faces to be greater than 180 degrees.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modified1 . An electronic display system comprising
a first display panel having a first viewing face; a second display panel having a second viewing face; and a hinge mechanism for coupling the first display panel to the second display panel, wherein the hinge mechanism allows the angle between the first viewing face and the second viewing face to be greater than 180°.
2 . The display claim of claim 1 , wherein the hinge mechanism allows the angle between the first and second viewing faces to be in the range of 0° to 360°.
3 . The display system of claim 1 , wherein the display system is adapted for use in one of a computer system and a handheld electronic device.
4 . The display system of claim 3 , further comprising a keyboard in electric communication with the first and second display panels.
5 . The display system of claim 1 , wherein the first viewing face includes an LCD screen.
6 . The display system of claim 1 , wherein the hinge mechanism couples one edge of the first display panel to one edge of the second display panel.
7 . The display system of claim 6 , wherein the one edge of the first display panel is horizontal.
8 . The display system of claim 6 , wherein the one edge of the first display panel is vertical.
9 . The display system of claim 1 , wherein the hinge mechanism allows the second display panel to assume an obverse viewing position in which the second display panel is substantially parallel to the first display panel and the second viewing face faces away from the first viewing face, thereby allowing a first person to view the first viewing face at the same time that a second person facing the first person views the second viewing face.
10 . The system of claim 9 , wherein, in the obverse viewing position, the second display panel is against the first display panel.
11 . The display system of claim 1 , wherein the hinge mechanism allows the display system to assume a storage position in which the second display panel is substantially parallel to the first display panel such that the first viewing face faces the second viewing face.
12 . The system of claim 11 , wherein, in the storage position, the second display panel is against the first display panel.
13 . The display system of claim 12 , wherein the hinge mechanism allows the second display panel to rotate 360° from the storage position to an obverse viewing position in which the second display panel is substantially parallel to and against the first display panel such that the second viewing face faces away from the first viewing face to thereby allow a first person to view the first viewing face at the same time that a second person facing the first person views the second viewing face.
14 . The system of claim 13 , wherein, in the obverse viewing position, the second display panel is against the first display panel.
15 . The display system of claim 14 , further comprising a keyboard having a keyboard edge to which a bottom edge of the first display panel is hingedly connected, wherein the first display panel and the second display panel may be folded over the keyboard when the display system is in the storage position.
16 . An electronic display system comprising
a first display panel having a first viewing face; a second display panel having a second viewing face; and a horizontal hinge mechanism for coupling the first display panel to the second display panel, wherein the hinge mechanism allows the angle between the first viewing face and the second viewing face to vary by rotation about a nominal horizontal axis.
17 . The display system of claim 16 , wherein the first viewing face includes an LCD screen.
18 . A method for displaying information on an electronic display system, the method comprising:
providing a first display panel having a first viewing face; providing a second display panel having a second viewing face, the second display panel coupled to the first display panel with a hinge mechanism that allows the angle between the first viewing face and the second viewing face to vary; and varying the angle between the first display panel and the second display panel so that the angle between the first viewing face and the second viewing face is greater than 180°.
19 . The method of claim 18 , wherein the step of varying includes varying the angle between the first viewing face and the second viewing face so that said angle is about 0° in a storage position, the first viewing face substantially facing the second viewing face.
20 . The method of claim 19 , wherein the display system includes a keyboard having a keyboard edge to which a bottom edge of the first display panel is hingedly connected, the method further comprising folding the first display panel and the second display panel over the keyboard in the storage position.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
