Gun mount apparatus

Abstract

A mounting apparatus for supporting an article, such as a weapon within a vehicle.

1 . A mounting apparatus for supporting articles within a vehicle including front and rear occupant areas, and driver and passenger seats supported within the front occupant area, the mounting apparatus comprising: 
 a base including a mounting platform with a plurality of mounting apertures, first and second side walls extending downwardly from the mounting platform, and first and second mounting members extending outwardly from the first and second side walls and configured to be secured to the floor of the vehicle;    an upright extending upwardly from the base in a generally vertical direction, the upright having opposing upper and lower ends and a plurality of mounting apertures, the lower end being coupled to the mounting platform of the base;    a first accessory mount coupled to at least one of the mounting apertures of the base;    a second accessory mount coupled to at least one of the mounting apertures of the upright; and    wherein the base is configured to support the upright laterally intermediate the front driver seat and the front passenger seat of the vehicle.    
   
   
       2 . The mounting apparatus of  claim 1 , wherein the first and second side walls are configured to extend proximate opposing sides of a drive shaft hump of the vehicle, and the mounting platform extends between the first and second side walls and is configured to be positioned above the drive shaft hump.  
   
   
       3 . The mounting apparatus of  claim 1 , wherein the first mounting member includes an aperture configured to receive a driver seat mounting stud, and the second mounting member includes an aperture configured to receive a passenger seat mounting stud.  
   
   
       4 . The mounting apparatus of  claim 1 , further comprising a cup holder supported by the mounting platform of the base.  
   
   
       5 . The mounting apparatus of  claim 4 , wherein the cup holder includes an opening formed within the mounting platform and a retaining ring supported above the opening.  
   
   
       6 . The mounting apparatus of  claim 1 , wherein at least one of the first and second accessory mounts includes an audio speaker mount.  
   
   
       7 . The mounting apparatus of  claim 1 , wherein at least one of the first and second accessory mounts includes a weapon mount.  
   
   
       8 . The mounting apparatus of  claim 7 , wherein the weapon mount includes a locking mechanism coupled to the upright.  
   
   
       9 . The mounting apparatus of  claim 8 , wherein the weapon mount further includes a butt housing coupled to the mounting platform of the base and supported in spaced relation to the locking mechanism.  
   
   
       10 . The mounting apparatus of  claim 7 , further comprising a blocking member coupled to the upright and configured to prevent the charging of a weapon coupled to the weapon mount.  
   
   
       11 . The mounting apparatus of  claim 1 , wherein at least one of the first and second accessory mounts includes a flashlight mount.  
   
   
       12 . The mounting apparatus of  claim 1 , further comprising a strengthening web extending between the base and the upright.  
   
   
       13 . The mounting apparatus of  claim 1 , further comprising a partition coupled to the upright and configured to prevent access to portions of the upright from the rear occupant area of the vehicle.  
   
   
       14 . The mounting apparatus of  claim 13 , further comprising electrical wires positioned intermediate a rear surface of the upright and the partition.  
   
   
       15 . A mounting apparatus for supporting articles within a vehicle including front and rear occupant areas, and driver and passenger seats supported within the front occupant area, the mounting apparatus comprising: 
 a base including a support and first and second mounting members coupled to the support, the first and second mounting members configured to be secured to the floor of the vehicle;    an upright extending upwardly from the base in a generally vertical direction;    a coupler coupling the upright to the base and configured to permit selective movement of the upright in a generally horizontal direction relative to the base; and    an accessory mount coupled to at least one of the base and the upright.    
   
   
       16 . The mounting apparatus of  claim 15 , wherein the base includes a mounting platform, and first and second mounting members coupled to the mounting platform and configured to be secured to the floor of the vehicle.  
   
   
       17 . The mounting apparatus of  claim 16 , wherein the first mounting member includes an aperture configured to receive a driver seat mounting stud and the second mounting member includes an aperture configured to receive a passenger seat mounting stud.  
   
   
       18 . The mounting apparatus of  claim 16 , wherein the mounting platform includes a plurality of mounting apertures configured to couple the accessory mount to the base.  
   
   
       19 . The mounting apparatus of  claim 16 , wherein the upright includes a connecting member, and an upright panel coupled to the connecting member, and an elongated slot is formed within at least one of the connecting member of the upright and the mounting platform of the base, the elongated slot being configured to receive the coupler connecting the upright to the base and being movable relative to the coupler.  
   
   
       20 . The mounting apparatus of  claim 19 , wherein the elongated slot is formed within the connecting member of the upright, and the mounting platform of the base includes an internally threaded aperture configured to receive the coupler.  
   
   
       21 . The mounting apparatus of  claim 19 , wherein the coupler is configured to couple the accessory mount to the connecting member of the upright and to couple the connecting member of the upright to the mounting platform of the base.  
   
   
       22 . A mounting apparatus for supporting articles within a vehicle including front and rear occupant areas, and driver and passenger seats coupled to seat mounting studs within the front occupant area, the mounting apparatus comprising: 
 a base including a support, first and second side walls extending downwardly from the support, and first and second mounting members extending outwardly from the first and second side walls, the first mounting member including an aperture configured to receive a seat mounting stud of the driver seat and the second mounting member including an aperture configured to receive a seat mounting stud of the passenger seat;    an upright extending upwardly from the base in a generally vertical direction, the upright having opposing upper and lower ends and a plurality of mounting apertures, the lower end being coupled to the support of the base; and    an accessory mount coupled to at least one of the mounting apertures of the upright.    
   
   
       23 . The mounting apparatus of  claim 22 , wherein the base includes a mounting platform having a plurality of mounting apertures configured to couple to the accessory mount.  
   
   
       24 . The amounting apparatus of  claim 22 , further comprising a coupler connecting the upright to the base and configured to permit selective movement of the upright in a generally horizontal direction relative to the base.  
   
   
       25 . The mounting apparatus of  claim 22 , wherein the accessory mount comprises a weapon mount.
