Method and apparatus for signaling transmission code set in data broadcasting
Abstract
A method of and an apparatus are provided for signaling a transmission code set in data broadcasting. A client using the transmission code set signaling method includes a demultiplexer demultiplexing a packetized elementary stream (PES) packet corresponding to a program selected by a user from the broadcasting stream received by the system interface, an image decoder decoding the demultiplexed PES for images, a sound decoder decoding the demultiplexed PES for sound, and a CPU fetching information about a transmission code set of a character string used in an object carousel message from the demultiplexed message PES and decoding the character string used in the object carousel message based on the fetched information about the transmission code set.

a receiver receiving an object carousal that comprises objects which comprise data and information about structures of the objects; a processor retrieving a transmission code set information from the object carousal, wherein the transmission code set information provides an instruction to interpret character strings representing the structures of the objects; and a decoder selected based on the instruction provided by the transmission code set information to decode the character strings.
2 . The client of claim 1 , wherein the object carousal is defined under ISO-IEC 13838-6 standard.
3 . The client of claim 1 , wherein the character strings are CORBA strings defined under CORBA/IIOP.
4 . The client of claim 1 , wherein the transmission code set information is included in a GIOP code set service context of the object carousal.
5 . The client of claim 4 , wherein the GIOP code set service context is included in a BIOP::ServiceGateway message of the object carousal.
6 . The client of claim 1 , if the retrieved transmission code set information comprises values indicating ISO 8859-1 standard, the information provides an instruction to interpret the character strings under the ISO 8859-1 standard.
7 . The client of claim 1 , if the retrieved transmission code set information comprises values indicating UTF-8 standard, the information provides an instruction to interpret the character strings under the UTF-8 standard.
8 . The client of claim 1 , if the transmission code set information is unavailable, decoding the character strings using a proper character decoder comprises decoding the character strings under the ISO 8859-1 standard.
9 . An apparatus for receiving an object including data and a message to reference the data which are transmitted by an object carousel, the apparatus comprising:
a receiving unit which receives and separates the object and the message; and a control unit which determines from the message information regarding an encoding system used to encode character strings in the message, and decodes the character strings according to the information which is determined.
10 . The apparatus of claim 9 , wherein the message is a broadcast inter ORB protocol (BIOP) message.
11 . The apparatus of claim 9 , wherein the object carousel is defined according to ISO-IEC 13838-6.
12 . The apparatus of claim 9 , wherein the character strings are common object request broker architecture (CORBA) strings defined according to CORBA/IIOP 2.1.
13 . The apparatus of claim 9 , wherein the message is a BIOP::ServiceGateway message.
14 . The apparatus of claim 9 , wherein the information is expressed in a general inter ORB protocol (GIOP) codeset service context of CORBA/IIOP 2.1.
15 . The apparatus of claim 13 , wherein the information is included in a general inter ORB protocol (GIOP) codeset service context within the BIOP::ServiceGateway message.
16 . The apparatus of claim 9 , wherein the information indicates that the character strings are encoded based on either ISO 8859-1 or UTF-8.
