Abstract
A fence system including a fence post and a rail inserted into and supported by the fence post. The rail being an elongated member having a channel or U-shaped cross section defined by a web member and parallel leg members attached to the web member. The rail is inserted into an aperture located in a sidewall of the post. The aperture having a shape or configuration that is substantially the same as the cross-sectional shape of the rail. Accordingly, any gaps between the opening or aperture in the post and the rail, once the rail is inserted into the post, are minimized.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modified1 . A fence comprising:
a rail, said rail including a elongated member having a concave polygon shaped cross-section; and a post, said post having a concave polygon shaped aperture therein, said aperture including a peripheral edge, said concave polygon shaped aperture corresponding to the concave polygon cross sectional shape of said rail whereby any gap existing between the peripheral edge of the aperture and the rail when the rail is inserted into said aperture is minimal.
2 . A fence as set forth in claim 1 wherein said concave polygon shaped cross-section of said rail includes a U-shaped cross section; and
said concave polygon shaped aperture in said post including a U-shaped aperture corresponding to the U-shaped cross-section of said rail.
3 . A fence as set forth in claim 2 wherein said U-shaped aperture defines an upstanding portion.
4 . A fence as set forth in claim 1 including a plurality of rails, each of said rails inserted into a correspondingly shaped aperture located on said post.
5 . A fence as set forth in claim 4 including a plurality of pickets secured to said rails.
6 . A fence comprising:
a rail, said rail including an elongated channel member having a cross-section including opposite sidewalls interconnected by a web portion; and a post, said post having an aperture therein, said aperture having a configuration similar to the cross-section of said elongated channel member and including an upstanding portion whereby said upstanding portion is disposed between said opposite sidewalls and adjacent said web portion of said rail when said rail is inserted into said aperture in said post.
7 . A fence as set forth in claim 6 wherein said post includes a hollow tubular member and having at least one sidewall, said aperture extending through said sidewall.
8 . A fence as set forth in claim 6 including a plurality of rails, said rails inserted into correspondingly shaped apertures located on said post.
9 . A fence as set forth in claim 8 including a plurality of pickets, said pickets secured to said rails.
10 . A fence comprising:
a post, said post including a tubular member having a hollow interior and at least one sidewall, said sidewall having an aperture extending through said sidewall, said aperture having a substantially U-shaped configuration defined in part by an upstanding portion of said sidewall of said post; and a rail, said rail including an elongated channel member having a U-shaped cross section including opposite sidewalls interconnected by a web portion, said opposite sidewalls and said web portion defining an opening, wherein wherein said rail is inserted into said post, said upstanding portion of said post fits between said opposite sidewalls of said rail and extends into said opening to close said opening and prevent access to said hollow interior of said post.
11 . A fence as set forth in claim 10 including a plurality of rails inserted into said post.
12 . A fence as set forth in claim 10 including a plurality of pickets attached to said rail.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
