Abstract
A reversible oven mitt for a user's right or left hand, the mitt having an open near end and an opposite closed tip end, the mitt including a. a cuff part extending from the open end distally toward the tip end and defining an internal space for encompassing the user's wrist, and b. a hand part extending distally from the cuff part to the tip end and defining an internal space for encompassing the user's hand, the mitt formed of: top and bottom panels, each having length, width, opposite side edges, near and opposite tip end edges, the panels situated in overlying relationship and joined at their respective side edges and tip ends and separated at their near ends, thus defining the cuff and hand parts, each of the top and bottom panels having near and far portions which define the cuff and hand parts respectively, each of such near and far portions including a principal layer of flexible heat insulating fabric having an inner surface facing the internal spaces and an opposite outer surface, the far portions of the top and bottom panels which define the hand part further including a flexible silicone layer fixed to the outer surface of principal layer, the silicone layer being a silicone sheet with a plurality of silicone projections spaced apart from each other and contiguous with and extending outwardly from the sheet.

a. a cuff part extending from said open end distally toward said tip end and defining an internal space for encompassing the user's wrist, and b. a hand part extending distally from said cuff part to said tip end and defining an internal space for encompassing the user's hand, said mitt comprising: top and bottom panels, each having length, width, opposite side edges, near and opposite tip end edges, said panels situated in overlying relationship and joined at their respective side edges and tip ends and separated at their near ends, thus defining said cuff and hand parts, each of said top and bottom panels having near and far portions which define said cuff and hand parts respectively, each of such near and far portions comprising a principal layer of flexible heat insulating fabric having an inner surface facing said internal spaces and an opposite outer surface, said far portions of said top and bottom panels, which define said hand part, further comprising a flexible silicone layer fixed to said outer surface of principal first layer, said silicone layer comprising a silicone sheet with a plurality of silicone projections spaced apart from each other and contiguous with and extending outwardly from said sheet.
2 . An oven mitt according to claim 1 , wherein said cuff part and said tip end extend along a central longitudinal axis of said mitt, and wherein said projections of said silicone layer extend in rows which are generally perpendicular to said central longitudinal axis.
3 . An oven mitt according to claim 1 wherein said silicone layer is thicker where said projections are located than in remaining regions of said silicone layer without said projections.
4 . An oven mitt according to claim 3 wherein said silicone layer where said projections are located is approximately twice as thick as said remaining regions of said silicone layer.
5 . An oven mitt according to claim 3 wherein said silicone layer where projections are located is approximately 4 cm. thick, and said remaining regions of said silicone layer is approximately 2 cm. thick.
6 . An oven mitt according to claim 1 wherein said first layer of heat insulating fabric comprises
a. a flexible inner liner having an inner surface facing said internal space, b. a flexible outer liner having an outer surface, and c. a flexible heat insulating fill layer secured between said inner and outer liners
7 . An oven mitt according to claim 6 wherein said inner liner comprises non-woven fusible synthetic, said outer liner comprises cotton twill and said fill layer comprises polyester fiber fill.
8 . An oven mitt according to claim 6 wherein each of said top and bottom panels of said cuff part and of said hand part comprises a terry cloth layer secured between said outer liner and said silicone layer.
9 . An oven mitt according to claim 6 wherein said inner liner comprises a terry cloth layer.
10 . An oven mitt according to claim 6 wherein said fill layer comprises polyester fiber fill.
11 . An oven mitt according to claim 1 wherein said internal space of said hand part comprises a first area to receive the user's fingers and palm and a second area lateral, adjacent and contiguous with said first area to receive the user's thumb.
12 . An oven mitt according to claim 11 wherein said top panel's outer surface is generally a mirror image of said bottom panel's outer surface.
13 . An oven mitt for a user's right or left hand, said mitt having a generally heart shape formed of opposite wing-like halves separated by a central longitudinal axis about which said wing-like halves are bendable to be closely adjacent each other, said oven mitt having:
a. an open near end at the bottom of the heart shape, b. an opposite closed tip end axially spaced from said open rear end, and c. between said open and closed ends an internal space for encompassing the user's hand, said mitt comprising: top and bottom generally heart-shaped panels, each having length, width, opposite side edges and near and opposite tip end edges, said heart-shaped panels situated in overlying relationship and joined at their respective side edges and tip ends and separated at their near ends which thus define said open near end, with said internal space defined between said panels, each of said panels comprising a principal layer of flexible heat insulating fabric having an inner surface facing said internal space and an opposite outer surface, said top panel further comprising a flexible silicone layer fixed to at least part of said outer surface of said principal layer of each of said wing-like halves, said silicone layer comprising a silicone sheet with a plurality of silicone projections spaced apart from each other, and contiguous with and extending outwardly from said silicone sheet, said opposite wing-like halves being bendable about said central longitudinal axis such that said top panel folds, and said layers of silicone on each of said wing-like halves of said top panel move upward and toward each other when a user's hand within said mitt moves the thumb toward the fingers.
14 . An oven mitt according to claim 13 , wherein each of said top and bottom panels comprises:
a. a flexible inner liner, b. a flexible outer liner, and c. a flexible heat insulating fill layer between said inner and outer liners.
15 . An oven mitt according to claim 13 wherein said silicone layer is situated in the upper outer portion of each of said wing-like parts on said top panel.
16 . An oven mitt according to claim 13 further comprising a line of stitches extending along the central longitudinal axis in said top panel, said line of stitches forming a bend line about which said oven mitt is readily bendable about said central longitudinal axis.
17 . An oven mitt according to claim 13 wherein said silicone projections are aligned in rows and said rows are spaced apart from each other.
18 . An oven mitt according to claim 13 wherein said silicone layer is thicker where said projections are located than in remaining regions of said silicone layer without said projections.
19 . An oven mitt for a user's right or left hand comprising:
a. a tubular cuff part comprising top and bottom panels in overlying relationship, joined along their side edges and extending from an open near end distally to a far end, and defining an internal space for encompassing the user's wrist, b. a thumb pocket part comprising top and bottom panels in overlying relationship, joined along their side edges and extending from said open far end of said cuff part distally to a first tip end, and defining an internal space for the user's thumb, and c. a finger pocket part situated below said thumb pocket part and comprising top and bottom panels in overlying relationship, joined along their side edges and extending from said open far end of said cuff part distally to a second tip end, and defining an internal space for the user's fingers, each of said top and bottom panels of said cuff part and of said thumb and finger pocket parts comprising a first layer of flexible heat insulating fabric having an inner surface facing its respective internal space and an opposite outer surface, said bottom panel of said thumb pocket part and said top panel of said finger pocket part (a) being adjacent and facing each other, and (b) each further comprising on its respective outer surface a flexible silicone layer fixed to said outer surface, said silicone layer comprising a silicone sheet with a plurality of silicone projections spaced apart from each other and contiguous with and extending outwardly from said sheet.
20 . An oven mitt according to claim 19 wherein said bottom panel of said thumb pocket part and said top panel of said finger pocket part comprise a single contiguous fabric sheet.
21 . An oven mitt according to claim 19 wherein said silicone projections are aligned in rows and said rows are spaced apart from each other.
22 . An oven mitt according to claim 19 wherein said silicone layer is thicker where said projections are located than in remaining regions of said silicone layer without said projections.
23 . An oven mitt according to claim 19 wherein said silicone projections are aligned in rows and said rows are spaced apart from each other, and wherein said fingers pocket defines a central longitudinal axis extending from said cuff part to said far end, and wherein said rows of projections of said silicone layer extend generally parallel to said central longitudinal axis.

An oven mitt comprising a palm side panel with side and end edges and a back side panel formed as a mirror image of and overlying said palm side panel, said panels joined along their mutual side and end edges to define an internal space for receiving a user's hand, each of said panels comprising a first flexible heat insulating fabric having an inner surface facing said internal space and an opposite outer surface, and a flexible heat insulating silicone layer secured to said outer surface of said first flexible heat insulating sheet material, said flexible heat insulating silicone layer including a plurality of spaced apart projections integrally formed with said silicone layer and directly outwardly therefrom, said projections extending outwardly, said silicone layer having thickness in the area of said projections being greater than the thickness in areas without said projections.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
