Information processing device capable of outputting print data to print device, and control method thereof

Abstract

In case of searching and outputting output information stored in a memory, it enables a user of the host computer to select the device of storing the output information, whereby the load in searching and outputting the information is reduced. To do so, when the host computer causes the printer to print the image based on the print data, the hard disk of the multifunctional device is selected from among the plural hard disks, as the storage destination to which the print data is stored and from which the stored print data can be searched and output. Then, the information representing the storage destination and the print data are transmitted to the printer so as to be printed, and the print data is also transmitted to the multifunctional device to be stored.

1 . An information processing device which can communicate with a printer adapted to print an image based on output information received through a network and a storage unit adapted to store the output information received through the network, said information processing device comprising: 
 a designation unit adapted to designate a storage destination to which it causes the storage unit on the network to store the output information;    a storage information generation unit adapted to generate storage information representing the storage destination designated by said designation unit;    a first transfer control unit adapted to add a discrimination ID according to the storage information to the output information and transfer the output information and the added discrimination ID to said storage unit, based on the storage information generated by said storage information generation unit; and    a second transfer control unit adapted to transfer the output information to which the discrimination ID has been added to said printer so as to cause said printer to print the transferred output information.    
   
   
       2 . An information processing device according to  claim 1 , further comprising a judgment unit adapted to examine and judge whether or not said storage unit can store the output information.  
   
   
       3 . An information processing device according to  claim 1 , wherein the output information is predetermined page description language data or extraction data which is acquired by extracting the predetermined page description language data.  
   
   
       4 . An information processing device according to  claim 1 , wherein the storage destination is designated through a printer driver.  
   
   
       5 . An information processing device according to  claim 1 , wherein 
 the storage destination is equivalent to the storage unit of an image processing device which is located on the network and has a print function and a scanner function, and    in said image processing device, the output information is extracted from the storage unit being the storage destination by reading the discrimination ID with use of the scanner function, and the extracted output information can be printed with use of the print function.    
   
   
       6 . An information processing device according to  claim 1 , wherein 
 the storage destination is equivalent to the storage unit of an image processing device which has a storage unit capable of at least storing the output information, and    in another device having a print function and a scanner function, the output information stored in said storage unit can be extracted from said storage unit and printed with use of the print function by reading the discrimination ID with use of the scanner function.

A control method for an information processing device which can communicate with a printer adapted to print an image based on output information received through a network and a storage unit adapted to store the output information received through the network, said control method comprising: 
 a designation step of designating a storage destination to which it causes any of the storage unit on the network to store the output information;    a storage information generation step of generating storage information representing the storage destination designated in said designation step;    a first transfer control step of adding a discrimination ID according to the storage information to the output information and transferring the output information and the added discrimination ID to the storage unit, based on the storage information generated in said storage information generation step; and    a second transfer control step of transferring the output information to which the discrimination ID has been added to the printer so as to cause the printer to print the transferred output information.

A program, which is stored in a computer-readable storage medium, for controlling an information processing device capable of communicating with a printer adapted to print an image based on output information received through a network and a storage unit adapted to store the output information received through the network, said program comprising: 
 a designation step of designating a storage destination to which it causes any of the storage units of the plural image processing devices on the network to store the output information;    a storage information generation step of generating storage information representing the storage destination designated in said designation step;    a first transfer control step of adding a discrimination ID according to the storage information to the output information and transferring the output information and the added discrimination ID to the storage unit, based on the storage information generated in said storage information generation step; and    a second transfer control step of transferring the output information to which the discrimination ID has been added to the printer so as to cause the printer to print the transferred output information.
