Abstract
An image display apparatus includes a light source having a plurality of light emitting devices, and a projection optical system capable of making lights from the light source scan in a main scanning direction and in a subscanning direction to display on a screen an image having a predetermined number of pixels. The scanning lines in the main scanning direction are formed by the lights emitted from each of the light emitting devices and controlled to be superposed one on another on the screen.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modified1 . An image display apparatus, comprising:
a light source having a plurality of light emitting devices; and a projection optical system capable of making lights from said light source scan in a main scanning direction and in a subscanning direction to display on a screen an image having a predetermined number of pixels, wherein the projection optical system comprises a main scanning device for scanning lights from said light source in the main scanning direction and a subscanning device for scanning lights from said light source in the subscanning direction, and wherein scanning lines in the main scanning direction formed by the lights emitted from each of said light emitting devices are controlled to be superposed one on another on the screen.
2 . The image display apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein the lights from said light emitting devices are irradiated on the same point on the screen simultaneously or at different times with a certain time lag.
3 . The image display apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein said light emitting devices are arranged unidimensionally or two-dimensionally.
4 . The image display apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein said light emitting devices are arranged in a direction corresponding to main scanning.
5 . The image display apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein said light emitting devices are arranged in a direction corresponding to subscanning while being spaced apart from each other by a distance determined on the basis of a pixel pitch in the subscanning direction.
6 . The image display apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein said light emitting devices are arranged in a direction not parallel to each of a direction corresponding to main scanning and a direction corresponding to subscanning, and the distance between said light emitting devices in the direction corresponding to subscanning is equal to a distance determined on the basis of a pixel pitch in the subscanning direction.
7 . The image display apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein each of said light emitting devices is designed so as to have an optical output of any of multivalue intensities.
8 . The image display apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein each of said light emitting devices outputs different quantities of light by modulating at least one of a pulse width and an amplitude.
9 . The image display apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein said plurality of light emitting devices in said light source are separated into a certain number of light emitting device groups respectively outputting lights with which different image areas on the screen are irradiated.
10 . The image display apparatus according to claim 9 , wherein said light emitting device groups are arranged in a direction corresponding to subscanning or in a direction corresponding to main scanning while being spaced apart from each other by a distance determined on the basis of a pixel pitch in the main scanning direction or the subscanning direction.
11 . The image display apparatus according to claim 9 , wherein said light emitting devices in each of said light emitting device groups are arranged in a direction corresponding to subscanning while being spaced apart from each other by a distance determined on the basis of a pixel pitch in the subscanning direction.
12 . The image display apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein said light source has light emitting devices capable of emitting red light, green light, and blue light.
13 . The image display apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein the lights from said emitting devices are substantially uniform in color.
14 . The image display apparatus according to claim 1 , further comprising scanning means in which a scanning frequency and a scanning angle in the main scanning direction or the subscanning direction are controlled in such a manner that said light emitting devices in said light source are arranged in predetermined array while being spaced apart from each other by a distance determined on the basis of a pixel pitch in the main scanning direction or the subscanning direction.
15 . The image display apparatus according to claim 14 , wherein said scanning means comprises a galvanometer mirror or a rotating polygon mirror.
16 . The image display apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein each of said light emitting devices is a laser, a light emitting diode or a super-luminescent diode.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
