Abstract
A method for increasing the current carried between two high voltage conductor support powers is provided. The method includes removing a first high voltage carrying cable mounted between the towers and replacing it a composite core cable.

exact text as granted — not AI-modified1 . A method for increasing the current carried between two high voltage conductor support towers, the method comprising:
removing a first high voltage carrying cable suspended between the towers, said first cable having a steel core and a conductor surrounding the core, wherein the steel core has an outer surface diameter, and wherein the conductor has an area in cross-section; and mounting a second cable on the towers such that the second cable is suspended between the towers, wherein the second cable comprises a composite core surrounded by a conductor, wherein the composite core comprises an outer surface diameter not greater than the outer surface diameter of the steel core, wherein the conductor of the second cable has an area in cross-section greater than the area of the conductor of the first cable, wherein the second cable carries more current than the first cable.
2 . The method as recited in claim 1 wherein the conductor of the first cable has an outer surface diameter and wherein the conductor of the second cable has an outer surface diameter which is equal the outer surface diameter of the conductor of the first cable.
3 . The method as recited in claim 1 wherein removing the first cable comprises removing the first cable using a set of tools, and wherein mounting the second cable comprises mounting the second cable using a set of tools of the same type as the set of tools used to remove the first cable.
4 . The method as recited in claim 1 wherein removing the first cable comprises removing the first cable using a set of tools, and wherein mounting the second cable comprises mounting the second cable using tools from the same set of tools.
5 . The method as recited in claim 1 further comprising forming the second cable composite core by pultrusion.
6 . The method as recited in claim 1 further comprising forming the second cable composite core from fibers impregnated with resin.
7 . The method as recited in claim 1 wherein the conductor of the first cable and the conductor of the second cable are both made from aluminum.
8 . The method as recited in claim 1 wherein the second cable is mounted on a location on each tower occupied by the first cable.
9 . A method for increasing the current carried between two high voltage conductor support towers, the method comprising:
removing a first high voltage carrying cable suspended between the towers, said first cable having a steel core and a conductor surrounding the core, the conductor comprising an outer surface diameter; and mounting a second cable on the towers such that the second cable is suspended between the towers, wherein the second cable comprises a composite core surrounded by a conductor wherein the conductor the second cable has an outer surface diameter that is not greater than the outer surface diameter of the conductor of the first cable, wherein the second cable carries more current than the first cable.
10 . The method as recited in claim 9 wherein removing the first cable comprises removing the first cable using a set of tools, and wherein mounting the second cable comprises mounting the second cable using a set of tools of the same type as the set of tools used to remove the first cable.
11 . The method as recited in claim 9 wherein removing the first cable comprises removing the first cable using a set of tools, and wherein mounting the second cable comprises mounting the second cable using tools from the same set of tools.
12 . The method as recited in claim 9 further comprising forming the second cable composite core by pultrusion.
13 . The method as recited in claim 9 further comprising forming the second cable composite core from fibers impregnated with resin.
14 . The method as recited in claim 9 wherien the conductor of the first cable and the conductor of the second cable are both made from aluminum.
15 . The method as recited in claim 9 wherein the steel core has a diameter and wherein the composite core has a diameter that is equal to the diameter of the steel core.
16 . The method as recited in claim 9 wherein the second cable is mounted on a location on each tower occupied by the first cable.
17 . A method for increasing the current carried between two high voltage conductor support towers, the method comprising:
removing a first high voltage carrying cable suspended between the towers, said first cable having a steel core having an outer surface diameter and a conductor surrounding the core; and mounting a second cable on the towers such that the second cable is suspended between the towers, wherein the second cable comprises a composite core having an outer surface diameter and a conductor surrounding the core,wherein the diameter of the outer surface of the composite core is equal to the diameter of the outer surface of the steel core.
18 . The method as recited in claim 17 wherein removing the first cable comprises removing the first cable using a set of tools, and wherein mounting the second cable comprises mounting the second cable using a set of tools of the same type as the set of tools used to remove the first cable.
19 . The method as recited in claim 17 wherein removing the first cable comprises removing the first cable using a set of tools, and wherein mounting the second cable comprises mounting the second cable using tools from the same set of tools.
20 . The method as recited in claim 17 further comprising forming the second cable composite core by pultrusion.
21 . The method as recited in claim 17 further comprising forming the second cable composite core from fibers impregnated with resin.
22 . The method as recited in claim 17 wherein the conductor of the first cable and the conductor of the second cable are both made from aluminum.
