Methods of playing poker-type card games with wagering options

Abstract

Methods for playing card games having at least one player and a dealer. Wagering areas are provided in a vicinity of each player for wagering based on a point value of one or more cards dealt to each player. Additional wagering areas are provided for wagering based on a rank of a five-card poker hand made up of two cards dealt to a player or to the dealer and a number of community cards. Two cards are dealt to each player and community cards are dealt in a common area of a playing surface. Point values for the player's two cards are determined, poker hand ranks are determined and wagers are settled. Additional wagering possibilities based on card suits, colors and groupings are also provided.

1 . A method for playing a card game having at least one player and a dealer and using at least one standard deck of playing cards, the method comprising the steps of: 
 a) providing a first wagering area in a vicinity of the at least one player, wherein said first wagering area corresponds to a predicted point value of one or more cards dealt to a player placing a first wager;    b) providing a second wagering area in a vicinity of the at least one player, wherein said second wagering area corresponds to a five-card poker hand comprising two cards dealt to a player placing a second wager and three cards dealt as community cards;    c) having at least one player place said first wager by placing one or more wagering devices in a portion of said first wagering area indicating said predicted point value of said one or more cards dealt to the player placing the first wager;    d) having at least one player place said second wager by placing one or more wagering devices in said second wagering area;    e) dealing a first card and a second card to each player;    f) dealing three community cards;    g) determining an actual point value of said one or more cards dealt to the player placing a first wager and comparing said actual point value to said predicted point value;    h) collecting an amount of said first wager if said predicted point value is not equal to said actual point value and paying a predetermined multiple of said amount of said first wager if said predicted point value is equal to said actual point value;    i) determining a rank of said five-card poker hand of the player placing said second wager; and    j) paying or collecting a predetermined multiple of an amount of said second wager based on said rank of said five-card poker hand.    
   
   
       2 . The method according to  claim 1 , wherein the step of providing a first wagering area further comprises providing a first wagering area comprising a plurality of first wager zones, wherein each of said plurality of first wager zones indicates a single possible total point value of two cards dealt to the player placing said first wager.  
   
   
       3 . The method according to  claim 2 , wherein said plurality of first wager zones is arranged in a matrix of rows and columns.  
   
   
       4 . The method of  claim 3 , wherein the step of having at least one player place a first wager further comprises having the at least one player place a first wager by placing one or more wagering devices adjacent to at least one of said rows or said columns of said matrix, wherein placing a wagering device adjacent to said at least one of said rows or said columns indicates a predicted total point value corresponding to all total point values included in said row or said column.  
   
   
       5 . The method according to  claim 1 , wherein the step of providing a first wagering area further comprises providing a first wagering area comprising a plurality of first wager zones, wherein each of said plurality of first wager zones indicates a possible range of possible total point values of two cards dealt to the player placing said first wager.  
   
   
       6 . The method according to  claim 5 , wherein said plurality of first wager zones comprise a first wager zone which indicates a total point value range of 2 to 8, a second wager zone which indicates a total point value range of 9 to 11, a third wager zone which indicates a total point value range of 12 to 16, a fourth wager zone which indicates a total point value range of 17 to 20, and a fifth wager zone which indicates a total point value of 21.  
   
   
       7 . The method according to  claim 1 , wherein the step of providing a first wagering area further comprises providing a first wagering area comprising a plurality of first wager zones each indicating a possible point value of a first card dealt to the player placing said first wager and a plurality of first wager zones each indicating a possible point value of a second card dealt to the player placing said first wager.  
   
   
       8 . The method according to  claim 1 , further comprising the steps of: 
 a) providing a third wagering area and a fourth wagering area in a vicinity of each player, wherein said third wagering area indicates a first color and said fourth wagering area indicates a second color;    b) having at least one player place a third wager by placing one or more wagering devices in one or more of said third and fourth wagering areas corresponding to a predicted color of both said first card and said second card dealt to the player placing said third wager;    c) collecting an amount of said third wager if said first card and said second card dealt to the player placing said third wager are not of a same color or if said first card and said second card are of a same color but said same color is not said predicted color; and    d) paying a predetermined multiple of said amount of said third wager if said first card and said second card dealt to the player placing said third wager are of a same color and said same color is said predicted color.    
   
   
       9 . The method according to  claim 8 , wherein the step of paying a predetermined multiple of said amount of said third wager further comprises paying a greater predetermined multiple of said amount of said third wager if said first card and said second card dealt to the player placing said third wager are of a same suit.  
   
   
       10 . The method according to  claim 1 , wherein the step of paying a predetermined multiple of said amount of said first wager further comprises paying a greater predetermined multiple of said amount of said first wager if said first card and said second card dealt to the player placing said first wager are of a same suit.  
   
   
       11 . The method according to  claim 1 , further comprising the steps of: 
 a) providing a third wagering area in a vicinity of each player, wherein said third wagering area corresponds to said first card and said second card dealt to a player placing a third wager comprising a pair;    b) having at least one player place said third wager by placing one or more wagering devices in said third wagering area;    c) collecting an amount of said third wager if said first card and said second card dealt to the player placing said third wager do not comprise a pair; and    d) paying a predetermined multiple of said amount of said third wager if said first card and said second card dealt to the player placing said third wager comprise a pair.    
   
   
       12 . The method according to  claim 1 , further comprising the steps of: 
 a) providing a third wagering area in a vicinity of each player, wherein said third wagering area corresponds to one or both of said first card and said second card dealt to a player placing a third wager comprising an ace;    b) having at least one player place said third wager by placing one or more wagering devices in said third wagering area;    c) collecting an amount of said third wager if neither of said first card and said second card dealt to the player placing said third wager comprise an ace; and    d) paying a predetermined multiple of said amount of said third wager if either or both of said first card and said second card dealt to the player placing said third wager comprise an ace.    
   
   
       13 . The method according to  claim 1 , further comprising the steps of: 
 a) providing a third wagering area in a vicinity of each player, wherein said third wagering area corresponds to said first card and said second card dealt to the player placing a third wager comprising a same suit;    b) having at least one player place said third wager by placing one or more wagering devices in said third wagering area;    c) collecting an amount of said third wager if said first card and said second card dealt to the player placing said third wager do not comprise a same suit; and    d) paying a predetermined multiple of said amount of said third wager if said first card and said second card dealt to the player placing said third wager comprise a same suit.    
   
   
       14 . The method according to  claim 1 , further comprising the steps of: 
 a) providing a third wagering area in a vicinity of each player, wherein said third wagering area corresponds to a five card poker hand comprising two cards dealt to a player placing a third wager and said three cards dealt as community cards;    b) having at least one player place said third wager by placing one or more wagering devices in said third wagering area;    c) dealing two cards to the dealer;    d) determining a rank of said five-card poker hand of the player placing said third wager and determining a rank of a five-card poker hand of the dealer, comprising said two cards dealt to the dealer and said three community cards;    e) collecting an amount of said third wager if said five-card poker hand of the dealer outranks said five-card poker hand of the player placing said third wager; and    f) paying a predetermined multiple of said amount of said third wager if said five-card poker hand of the player placing said third wager outranks said five-card poker hand of the dealer.    
   
   
       15 . The method according to  claim 1 , further comprising the steps of: 
 a) providing a pot area, wherein at least one player and the dealer contribute to a pot by placing one or more wagering devices in said pot area;    b) dealing two cards to the dealer;    c) determining a rank of said five-card poker hand of a player contributing to said pot and determining a rank of a five-card poker hand of the dealer, comprising said two cards dealt to the dealer and said three community cards; and    d) paying an amount of said pot to the player contributing to said pot or to the dealer having a highest ranking five-card poker hand.    
   
   
       16 . The method according to  claim 15 , wherein the step of paying an amount of said pot further comprises paying said amount of said pot only if a player or the dealer's five-card poker hand equals or exceeds a predetermined rank and letting said pot accumulate if a player or the dealer's five-card poker hand does not equal or exceed said predetermined rank.  
   
   
       17 . The method according to  claim 16 , wherein said predetermined rank comprises three of a kind.  
   
   
       18 . The method according to  claim 15 , further comprising the steps of dealing one or more of said three community cards in a face-down position, flipping said one or more community cards to a face-up position and permitting at least one player to make a further contribution to said pot before said one or more community cards are flipped to said face-up position.  
   
   
       19 . A method for playing a card game having at least one player and a dealer and using at least one standard deck of playing cards, the method comprising the steps of: 
 a) providing a first wagering area in a vicinity of the at least one player, wherein said first wagering area corresponds to a predicted point value of one or more cards dealt to a player placing a first wager;    b) providing a second wagering area in a vicinity of the at least one player, wherein said second wagering area corresponds to a five-card poker hand selected from two cards dealt to a player placing a second wager and five cards dealt as community cards;    c) having at least one player place said first wager by placing one or more wagering devices in a portion of said first wagering area indicating a predicted point value of said one or more cards dealt to the player placing the first wager;    d) having at least one player place said second wager by placing one or more wagering devices in said second wagering area;    e) dealing a first card and a second card to each player;    f) dealing five community cards;    g) determining an actual point value of said one or more cards dealt to the player placing a first wager and comparing said actual point value to said predicted point value;    h) collecting an amount of said first wager if said predicted point value is not equal to said actual point value and paying a predetermined multiple of said amount of said first wager if said predicted point value is equal to said actual point value;    i) determining a rank of said five-card poker hand of the player placing said second wager; and    j) paying or collecting a predetermined multiple of an amount of said second wager based on said rank of said five-card poker hand.    
   
   
       20 . The method according to  claim 19 , wherein the step of providing a first wagering area further comprises providing a first wagering area comprising a plurality of first wager zones, wherein each of said plurality of first wager zones indicates a single possible total point value of two cards dealt to the player placing said first wager.  
   
   
       21 . The method according to claims  20 , wherein said plurality of first wager zones is arranged in a matrix of rows and columns.  
   
   
       22 . The method of  claim 21 , wherein the step of having at least one player place a first wager further comprises having the at least one player place a first wager by placing one or more wagering devices adjacent to at least one of said rows or said columns of said matrix, wherein placing a wagering device adjacent to said at least one of said rows or said columns indicates a predicted total point value corresponding to all total point values included in said row or said column.  
   
   
       23 . The method according to  claim 19 , wherein the step of providing a first wagering area further comprises providing a first wagering area comprising a plurality of first wager zones, wherein each of said plurality of first wager zones indicates a possible range of possible total point values of two cards dealt to the player placing said first wager.  
   
   
       24 . The method according to  claim 23 , wherein said plurality of first wager zones comprise a first wager zone which indicates a total point value range of 2 to 8, a second wager zone which indicates a total point value range of 9 to 11, a third wager zone which indicates a total point value range of 12 to 16, a fourth wager zone which indicates a total point value range of 17 to 20, and a fifth wager zone which indicates a total point value of 21.  
   
   
       25 . The method according to  claim 19  wherein the step of providing a first wagering area further comprises providing a first wagering area comprising a plurality of first wager zones each indicating a possible point value of a first card dealt to the player placing said first wager and a plurality of first wager zones each indicating a possible point value of a second card dealt to the player placing said first wager.  
   
   
       26 . The method according to  claim 19 , further comprising the steps of: 
 a) providing a third wagering area and a fourth wagering area in a vicinity of each player, wherein said third wagering area indicates a first color and said fourth wagering area indicates a second color;    b) having at least one player place a third wager by placing one or more wagering devices in one or more of said third and fourth wagering areas corresponding to a predicted color of both said first card and said second card dealt to the player placing said third wager;    c) collecting an amount of said third wager if said first card and said second card dealt to the player placing said third wager are not of a same color or if said first card and said second card are of a same color but said same color is not said predicted color; and    d) paying a predetermined multiple of said amount of said third wager if said first card and said second card dealt to the player placing said third wager are of a same color and said same color is said predicted color.    
   
   
       27 . The method according to  claim 26 , wherein the step of paying a predetermined multiple of said amount of said third wager further comprises paying a greater predetermined multiple of said amount of said third wager if said first card and said second card dealt to the player placing said third wager are of a same suit.  
   
   
       28 . The method according to  claim 19 , wherein the step of paying a predetermined multiple of said amount of said first wager further comprises paying a greater predetermined multiple of said amount of said first wager if said first card and said second card dealt to the player placing said first wager are of a same suit.  
   
   
       29 . The method according to  claim 19 , further comprising the steps of: 
 a) providing a third wagering area in a vicinity of each player, wherein said third wagering area corresponds to said first card and said second card dealt to a player placing a third wager comprising a pair;    b) having at least one player place said third wager by placing one or more wagering devices in said third wagering area;    c) collecting an amount of said third wager if said first card and said second card dealt to the player placing said third wager do not comprise a pair; and    d) paying a predetermined multiple of said amount of said third wager if said first card and said second card dealt to the player placing said third wager comprise a pair.    
   
   
       30 . The method according to  claim 19 , further comprising the steps of: 
 a) providing a third wagering area in a vicinity of each player, wherein said third wagering area corresponds to one or both of said first card and said second card dealt to a player placing a third wager comprising an ace;    b) having at least one player place said third wager by placing one or more wagering devices in said third wagering area;    c) collecting an amount of said third wager if neither of said first card and said second card dealt to the player placing said third wager comprise an ace; and    d) paying a predetermined multiple of said amount of said third wager if either or both of said first card and said second card dealt to the player placing said third wager comprise an ace.    
   
   
       31 . The method according to  claim 19 , further comprising the steps of: 
 a) providing a third wagering area in a vicinity of each player, wherein said third wagering area corresponds to said first card and said second card dealt to the player placing a third wager comprising a same suit;    b) having at least one player place said third wager by placing one or more wagering devices in said third wagering area;    c) collecting an amount of said third wager if said first card and said second card dealt to the player placing said third wager do not comprise a same suit; and    d) paying a predetermined multiple of said amount of said third wager if said first card and said second card dealt to the player placing said third wager comprise a same suit.    
   
   
       32 . The method according to  claim 19 , further comprising the steps of: 
 a) providing a third wagering area in a vicinity of each player, wherein said third wagering area corresponds to a five card poker hand selected from two cards dealt to a player placing a third wager and said five cards dealt as community cards;    b) having at least one player place said third wager by placing one or more wagering devices in said third wagering area;    c) dealing two cards to the dealer;    d) determining a rank of said five-card poker hand of the player placing said third wager and determining a rank of a five-card poker hand of the dealer, selected from said two cards dealt to the dealer and said five community cards;    e) collecting an amount of said third wager if said five-card poker hand of the dealer outranks said five-card poker hand of the player placing said third wager; and    f) paying a predetermined multiple of said amount of said third wager if said five-card poker hand of the player placing said third wager outranks said five-card poker hand of the dealer.    
   
   
       33 . The method according to  claim 19 , further comprising the steps of: 
 a) providing a pot area, wherein at least one player and the dealer contribute to a pot by placing one or more wagering devices in said pot area;    b) dealing two cards to the dealer;    c) determining a rank of said five-card poker hand of a player contributing to said pot and determining a rank of a five-card poker hand of the dealer, selected from said two cards dealt to the dealer and said five community cards; and    d) paying an amount of said pot to the player contributing to said pot or to the dealer having a highest ranking five-card poker hand.    
   
   
       34 . The method according to  claim 33 , wherein the step of paying an amount of said pot further comprises paying said amount of said pot only if a player or the dealer's five-card poker hand equals or exceeds a predetermined rank and letting said pot accumulate if a player or the dealer's five-card poker hand does not equal or exceed said predetermined rank.  
   
   
       35 . The method according to  claim 34 , wherein said predetermined rank comprises three of a kind.  
   
   
       36 . The method according to  claim 33 , further comprising the steps of dealing one or more of said five community cards in a face-down position, flipping said one or more community cards to a face-up position and permitting at least one player to make a further contribution to said pot before said one or more community cards are flipped to said face-up position.
