Abstract
The present invention relates to a process of producing a highly oxidatively stable polyalphaolefin by hydrogenating a polyalphaolefin to greatly decrease its level of unsaturation.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modified1 - 28 . (canceled)
29 . A method of producing high oxidative stability polyalphaolefins, comprising:
heating a polyalphaolefin mixture to a temperature sufficient to separate a 4 cSt polyalphaolefin fluid from the polyalphaolefin mixture; separating a polyalphaolefin fluid from the polyalphaolefin mixture, wherein the polyalphaolefin fluid has a desired viscosity; and hydrogenating the polyalphaolefin fluid to a level of hydrogenation in which a Bromine Index of less than 200 mg Bromine per 100 gram sample of polyalphaolefin is achieved.
30 . A method according to claim 29 wherein the polyalphaolefin fluid has a viscosity of about 4 cSt.
31 . A method according to claim 29 wherein the polyalphaolefin mixture is heated to a temperature sufficient to separate a 6 cSt polyalphaolefin fluid, and wherein separated polyalphaolefin fluid has a viscosity of about 6 cSt.
32 . A method according to claim 29 wherein a Bromine Index of less than 100 mg Bromine per 100 gram sample of polyalphaolefin is achieved.
33 . A method according to claim 29 wherein a Bromine Index of less than 50 mg Bromine per 100 gram sample of polyalphaolefin is achieved.
34 . A method according to claim 29 wherein a Bromine Index of less than 25 mg Bromine per 100 gram sample of polyalphaolefin is achieved.
35 . A method according to claim 29 , wherein the hydrogenating is conducted to a level of hydrogenation in which an RBOT level of at least 2200 minutes is achieved when 0.5 wt % diphenyl amine is used as an antioxidant.
36 . A method according to claim 29 , wherein the hydrogenating is conducted to a level of hydrogenation in which a Lube Oil Oxidator level of at least 45 hours is achieved when pressures between 350 and 2500 psi are applied.
37 . A method of producing high oxidative stability polyalphaolefins, comprising:
heating a polyalphaolefin mixture to a first temperature sufficient to remove dimers from the polyalphaolefin mixture; heating the polyalphaolefin mixture to a second temperature sufficient to remove a 4 cSt polyalphaolefin fluid from the polyalphaolefin mixture; separating a polyalphaolefin fluid from the polyalphaolefin mixture, wherein the polyalphaolefin fluid has a desired viscosity; and hydrogenating the polyalphaolefin fluid to a level of hydrogenation in which a Bromine Index of less than 200 mg Bromine per 100 gram sample of polyalphaolefin is achieved.
38 . A method according to claim 37 wherein the polyalphaolefin fluid has a viscosity of about 4 cSt.
39 . A method according to claim 37 wherein the polyalphaolefin mixture is heated to a temperature sufficient to separate a 6 cSt polyalphaolefin fluid, and wherein separated polyalphaolefin fluid has a viscosity of about 6 cSt.
40 . A method according to claim 37 wherein a Bromine Index of less than 100 mg Bromine per 100 gram sample of polyalphaolefin is achieved.
41 . A method according to claim 37 wherein a Bromine Index of less than 50 mg Bromine per 100 gram sample of polyalphaolefin is achieved.
42 . A method according to claim 37 wherein a Bromine Index of less than 25 mg Bromine per 100 gram sample of polyalphaolefin is achieved.
43 . A method according to claim 37 , wherein the hydrogenating is conducted to a level of hydrogenation in which an RBOT level of at least 2200 minutes is achieved when 0.5 wt % diphenyl amine is used as an antioxidant.
44 . A method according to claim 37 , wherein the hydrogenating is conducted to a level of hydrogenation in which a Lube Oil Oxidator level of at least 45 hours is achieved when pressures between 350 and 2500 psi are applied.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
