Claims

Abstract

A barrier against arthropods crawling along a surface comprises a soft pliable polymer collar portion adapted for tight and substantially continuous receipt against a surface. A mounting portion secures the collar to the surface and serves to preventing relative motion between the collar and the surface. A generally continuous flared skirt member extends from the collar and is comprised of a soft pliable polymer having a arthropod-deterring ingredient molded therein. The skirt defines an unobstructed access opening opposite the collar. The opening is defined by an end of the generally continuous skirt.

       42 . A device for interrupting a route of travel of crawling arthropods, comprising in combination: 
 a soft pliable plastic continuous collar portion adapted for continuous receipt about a surface;    a soft pliable plastic substantially continuous flared skirt portion extending from the collar portion; and    an arthropod-deterring ingredient directly layered against all of the soft pliable plastic collar portion and to all of the soft pliable plastic flared skirt portion, the skirt portion defining an unobstructed access opening opposite the collar portion, said opening defined by an end of a substantially continuous skirt.    
   
   
       43 . The device of  claim 42  wherein a vapor head is created in an area defined by the skirt.  
   
   
       44 . The device of  claim 43 , wherein the upper soft pliable polymeric plastic sheet portion and the flared skirt portion are one piece.  
   
   
       45 . The device of  claim 42  further including a fastener for securing the collar against the surface of an elongated slender structure received axially therethrough, the elongated slender structure being selected from at least one of: a conduit, a pole, a pillar, a shaft, a rope, a tree, a branch and a botanical axis.  
   
   
       46 . The device of  claim 42 , further comprising: 
 a plastic cover conforming to and overlapping both the soft pliable plastic collar portion and the soft pliable plastic flared skirt portion.    
   
   
       47 . The device of  claim 42 , further including a fastener for securing the collar against the surface of a structure, the structure being selected from at least one of: 
 a flat planar wall surface and angled corner wall surface.    
   
   
       48 . A device for interrupting a route of travel of crawling arthropods, comprising in combination: 
 a soft pliable plastic continuous collar portion adapted for continuous receipt about a surface;    a soft pliable plastic substantially continuous flared skirt portion extending from the collar portion, the upper soft pliable polymeric plastic sheet portion and the flared skirt portion being one piece; and    an arthropod-deterring ingredient layered against an underside of both the soft pliable plastic collar portion and the soft pliable plastic flared skirt portion, the skirt portion defining an unobstructed access opening opposite the collar portion, said opening defined by an end of a substantially continuous skirt, wherein the arthropod-deterring ingredient is directly layered against all of the underside of both the soft pliable plastic collar portion and directly layered against all of the underside of the soft pliable plastic flared skirt portion, and a vapor head is defined by the flared skirt portion.

The device of  claim 48 , further including a fastener for securing the collar against the surface of an elongated slender structure received axially therethrough, the elongated slender structure being selected from at least one of: a conduit, a pole, a pillar, a shaft, a rope, a tree, a branch and a botanical axis.  
   
   
       50 . The device of  claim 48 , further including a fastener for securing the collar against the surface of a structure, the structure being selected from at least one of: 
 a flat planar wall surface and angled corner wall surface.    
   
   
       51 . The device of  claim 48 , further comprising: 
 a plastic cover conforming to and overlapping both the soft pliable plastic collar portion and the soft pliable plastic flared skirt portion.    
   
   
       52 . A device for interrupting a route of travel of crawling arthropods, comprising in combination: 
 a soft pliable plastic continuous collar portion adapted for continuous receipt about a surface;    a soft pliable plastic substantially continuous flared skirt portion extending from the collar portion; and    an arthropod-deterring ingredient inserted on a surface of the soft pliable plastic flared skirt portion, the skirt portion defining an unobstructed access opening opposite the collar portion, said opening defined by an end of a substantially continuous skirt.    
   
   
       53 . The device of  claim 52 , the upper soft pliable polymeric plastic sheet portion and the flared skirt portion are one piece.  
   
   
       54 . The device of  claim 52 , further including a fastener for securing the collar against the surface of an elongated slender structure received axially therethrough, the elongated slender structure being selected from at least one of: a conduit, a pole, a pillar, a shaft, a rope, a tree, a branch and a botanical axis.  
   
   
       55 . The device of  claim 52 , further including a fastener for securing the collar against the surface of a structure, the structure being selected from at least one of: 
 a flat planar wall surface and angled corner wall surface.    
   
   
       56 . The device of  claim 52 , further comprising: 
 a plastic cover conforming to and overlapping both the soft pliable plastic collar portion and the soft pliable plastic flared skirt portion.
