Abstract

A novel gene (designated 158P1D7) and its encoded protein are described. While 158P1D7 exhibits tissue specific expression in normal adult tissue, it is aberrantly expressed in multiple cancers including set forth in Table 1. Consequently, 158P1D7 provides a diagnostic and/or therapeutic target for cancers,. The 158P1D7 gene or fragment thereof, or its encoded protein or a fragment thereof, can be used to elicit an immune response.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
1 . An assay kit for detecting the presence of a SEQ ID NO: 656 gene product in a test sample, comprising:
a test chamber, wherein the test sample is placed for assaying; a probe that specifically binds to the SEQ ID NO: 656 gene product, wherein the probe is placed in contact with the test sample; and a detecting device, wherein the detecting device receives the probe in contact with the test sample and detects the presence of a complex of the probe and the SEQ ID NO: 656 gene product.

2 . The assay kit of claim 1 , wherein the test sample is a tissue sample selected from the group consisting of bladder, prostate, colon, lung, breast, and ovary tissue.

3 . The assay kit of claim 2 , further comprising a normal sample placed in contact with the probe and subjected to the detecting device.

4 . The assay kit of claim 3 , wherein the SEQ ID NO: 656 gene product is selected from the group consisting of a SEQ ID NO: 656 mRNA, a SEQ ID NO: 657 protein and a protein that is at least 90% identical to SEQ ID NO: 657.

5 . The assay kit of claim 4 , wherein the probe specifically binds to the SEQ ID NO: 656 gene product.

6 . The assay kit of claim 5 , wherein the probe is an oligonucleotide and the gene product is a SEQ ID NO: 656 mRNA.

7 . The assay kit of claim 6 , wherein the probe is detected in a Northern blot analysis.

8 . The assay kit of claim 7 , whereby the presence of elevated SEQ ID NO: 656 mRNA in the test sample relative to the normal sample provides an indication of a cancer in the test sample.

9 . The assay kit of claim 5 , wherein the probe is an antibody or a fragment thereof and the gene product is a protein that is at least 90% identical to SEQ ID NO: 657.

10 . The assay kit of claims 9 , wherein the probe is used in a Western blot analysis.

11 . The assay kit of claim 10 , whereby the presence of elevated protein in the test sample relative to the normal sample provides an indication of a cancer in the test sample.

12 . The assay kit of claim 5 , wherein the probe is an antibody or a fragment thereof and the gene product is a protein that is identical to SEQ ID NO: 657.

13 . The assay kit of claims 12 , wherein the probe is used in a Western blot analysis.

14 . The assay kit of claim 13 , whereby the presence of elevated protein in the test sample relative to the normal sample provides an indication of a cancer in the test sample.

15 . A method for detecting expression levels of a SEQ ID NO: 656 gene product in a test sample and a normal sample, the method comprising:
providing the test sample and the normal sample; determining expression levels of the SEQ ID NO: 656 gene product in the test sample and the normal sample, wherein determining expression levels is achieved by measuring specific binding of a probe to the SEQ ID NO: 656 gene product in the sample; and comparing the expression levels of the SEQ ID NO: 656 gene product detected in the test sample and the normal sample.

16 . The method of claim 15 , wherein the sample is a tissue selected from the group consisting of bladder, prostate, colon, lung, breast, and ovary tissue.

17 . The method of claim 16 , wherein the SEQ ID NO: 656 gene product is selected from the group consisting of a SEQ ID NO: 656 mRNA, a SEQ ID NO: 657 protein and a protein that is at least 90% identical to SEQ ID NO: 657.

18 . The method of claim 17 , wherein the probe is an oligonucleotide and the gene product is a SEQ ID NO: 656 mRNA.

19 . The method of claim 17 , wherein the probe is an antibody or fragment thereof that binds specifically to a protein that is at least 90% identical to SEQ ID NO: 657.

20 . The method of claim 15 , whereby the presence of elevated SEQ ID NO: 656 mRNA or protein expression in the test sample relative to the normal sample provides an indication of a cancer in the test sample.
