Candlewick trimmer

Abstract

A candlewick trimmer includes an elongate housing and a lever pivotally mounting to the housing. The lever includes a cutter extending from the pivot having a cutting edge in the housing and spaced from one end of the housing. The lever also includes an actuator or trigger outside of the housing that moves the cutting edge. The end of the housing is sized to enable the trimmer to trim the wicks of jar candles and multiple-wick candles.

1 . A candlewick trimmer comprising: 
 a housing defining an interior, a lever, an actuator operatively connected to the lever, a pivot connection mounting the lever partially in the housing, the lever pivotable about a pivot axis for relative motion between first and second operating positions, and a spring operatively connected between the housing and the lever, the spring biasing the lever towards the first operating position;    the housing comprising an elongate tubular portion comprising axially spaced first and second ends, and a face at the first end comprising an opening extending axially through the face to receive the free end of a candlewick inserted into the housing interior;    the lever comprising a cutter extending from the pivot axis towards the first end, the cutter comprising a cutting edge in the tubular portion adjacent the face, the cutting edge moving across the face opening to effect cutoff of a wick inserted into the housing when the lever is moved from the first position to the second position; and    the actuator being arranged to receive a force urging the lever towards the second operating position.    
   
   
       2 . The candlewick trimmer of  claim 1  wherein the pivot axis is between the actuator and the cutter.  
   
   
       3 . The candlewick trimmer of  claim 1  wherein the actuator is adjacent the second end of the housing.  
   
   
       4 . The candlewick trimmer of  claim 1  wherein the actuator and lever are formed as a single piece.  
   
   
       5 . The candlewick trimmer of  claim 4  wherein the cutting edge is spaced from the second end of the housing by between about one-eighth inch and about one-quarter inch.  
   
   
       6 . The candlewick trimmer of  claim 4  wherein the face comprises a conical guide surface surrounding the opening for guiding the free end of the candlewick into the housing.  
   
   
       7 . The candlewick trimmer of  claim 1  comprising a lighter for lighting a candle and the housing is attached to the lighter.  
   
   
       8 . The candlewick trimmer of  claim 7  comprising means for removably mounting the housing on the lighter.  
   
   
       9 . The candlewick trimmer of  claim 8  wherein the mounting means comprises a tubular adapter.  
   
   
       10 . The candlewick trimmer of  claim 7  comprising a candle tool mounted on the lighter or on the housing.  
   
   
       11 . The candlewick trimmer of  claim 7  wherein the actuator represents a first actuator and the lighter comprises a second actuator to operate the lighter wherein the first and second actuators are independently operable.  
   
   
       12 . The candlewick trimmer of  claim 1  comprising an additional candle tool mounted on the housing.
