Structure to enclose a safe zone on and above a mattress and its support permitting limited movement only of a bedridden patient in the safe zone
Abstract
A device with a support for a mattress to accommodate a person on the mattress which includes a frame work including connectors to secure the framework in upstanding relation peripherally about the mattress; the frame work includes corner posts each extending a generally common distance above the mattress, and members spanning the corner posts defining a safety zone space between the corner posts and between the members and above a mattress on the bed, a net having an inside and an outside surface supported on the frame work and enclosing the space; and structure to attach the net and frame work together; and the net has a normally closed opening provided with a normally closed closure member for the net opening with an operator structure to open and close the opening accessable only from outside of the net.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modified1 . A device to support a mattress to accommodate a person at rest on the mattress, comprising,
a frame work including means to secure the framework in upstanding relation peripherally about the mattress, said frame work including corner posts each extending a generally common distance above the mattress, and members spanning the corner posts defining a safety zone space between the corner posts and between the members and above a mattress on the bed, a net having an inside and an outside surface supported on the frame work and enclosing the space, means to attach the net and frame work together, said net having an access opening, a normally closed closure means secured on said net including operator means to open and close the opening on the outside surface of the net.
2 . A safety device to confine a bed ridden patient to movement on the surface of a mattress comprising
a framework including
rectangular floor means to support the mattress with its upper surface normally in a generally horizontal plane,
corner posts extending vertically from the corners of the floor means, each post having an upper end zone, and
elongate head, foot and side members extending between the upper end zones of said posts, each member having an end zone,
said framework defining a space extending vertically from said floor means and the upper surface of the mattress and between the corner post and members,
an open mesh network, having an inside surface and an outside surface, snugly surrounding the space, said network having a lower skirt, said network having an opening to administer to the patient and including a normally closed gate means to open and close the opening, first means to connect the members to the upper end zones of the posts, second means to connect the network to the frame work, and third means to connect the skirt to the framework below the mattress surface, said second and third means to connect and said gate means each including means outside of the space to lock each of said means to connect and the gate so that, when the safety device is assembled and a patient is in the space, the patient is confined to the space, unless released by a person outside of the device.
3 . The device as set forth in claim 2 wherein the device includes support legs for the framework.
4 . The device as set forth in claim 2 wherein the device includes means to connect the device to a bed frame.
5 . The device as set forth in claim 2 wherein the first connector means includes a separate body to connect the upper end zone of each post and a pair of coplanar right angularly extending tubular portions each having an axial recess sized and configured to mate with and to receive the end zones of adjacent members in assembly of the device.
6 . The device as set forth in claim 2 wherein said third means to connect includes a plurality of openings along and encircling the skirt and looped lacings to lace the skirt to the floor means.
7 . The device as set forth in claim 2 where in the gate means includes zipper means connecting the gate means and network.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
