Wall art for concealing a recessed cabinet

Abstract

Releasable slide assemblies are adapted to be coupled to an artistically framed picture, or mirror, thereby effectively concealing a recessed cabinet and providing unobvious movement in longitudinal direction. The preferred releasable slide assembly consists of three elements, attached to inter-fitting longitudinally movable members in a relationship to pass adjacent to one another. The slide assembly is relatively silent in operation, and even the inexperienced operator can actuate the release latch. The decorative cover is convincing in concealment, visually appealing in the open and closed positions, and easily removed from the slide assembly.

1 . A cabinet having an outward appearance of a decorative wall article and adapted to be mounted substantially within the recess of a wall whereby audio video equipment may be stored comprising: 
 a. a generally rectangular shaped housing having an open forward portion thereof and dimensions such that said housing maybe substantially contained within the recess of said wall;    b. a outer door disposed directly in front of said housing having the outward appearance of a decorative wall article such as a framed picture or mirror having two sides whereby the undecorated side comprises a plurality of support beams mounted to said frame and horizontally located to said housing;    c. a plurality of telescoping slide assemblies sandwiched between said decorative wall article and said wall and horizontally located above and below said housing comprising interconnected load carrying, intermediate, and stationary slides movable relative to one another to extend and retract the load carrying and intermediate slides relative to the stationary slide between fully extended and retracted positions, the stationary slide being formed with a means to fasten to said wall, the load carrying slide being formed with a means to fasten to said support beam coupled to said decorative wall article to be carried on the load carrying slide, the intermediate slide being formed to include a retraction stop, and a retainer coupled to the load carrying slide to move therewith, the retainer including a release latch that promotes clearance between normally abutting faces to allow the load carrying slide, and intermediate slide to be separated completely, whereby pushing the said members towards a retracted position, the inclined faces will engage and permit the slide members to continue their travel and be completely nested, one in the other.
