Abstract

A pharmaceutical composition comprising lectins is anti-tumorigenic and anti-viral, bacterial or protozoan. The composition, termed BiOmune is also useful for imaging, diagnosis and therapy of cancer.

1 . A pharmaceutical composition comprising: 
 lectin;    immunogenicity modifier;    pokeweed mitogen; and,    polyetheylene glycol.    
     
     
         2 . The pharmaceutical composition of  claim 1 , wherein the lectin is coupled to an immunogenicity modifier.  
     
     
         3 . The pharmaceutical composition of  claim 1 , wherein the immunogenicity modifier is a hapten.  
     
     
         4 . The pharmaceutical composition of  claim 3 , wherein the hapten is 2,4-dinitrophenol (DNP).  
     
     
         5 . The pharmaceutical composition of  claim 1 , wherein the pokeweed mitogen is coated with polyethylene glycol.  
     
     
         6 . The pharmaceutical composition of  claim 1 , which further comprises interleukin molecules.  
     
     
         7 . The pharmaceutical composition of  claim 6 , wherein the interleukin molecules are Interleukin-2.  
     
     
         8 .          9 . The pharmaceutical composition of  claim 8 , wherein the lectin is Helix pomatia.  
     
     
         10 . A pharmaceutical composition comprising a nucleotide molecule as identified by SEQ ID NO: 1, derivatives, variants and fragments thereof.  
     
     
         11 . The pharmaceutical composition of  claim 10 , wherein the nucleotide molecule is admixed with 1,2 dioleoyl-3-trimethylammonium-propane and cholesterol.  
     
     
         12 . A pharmaceutical composition comprising: 
 lectin;    immunogenicity modifier;    pokeweed mitogen;    polyetheylene glycol; and,    a nucleic acid molecule.    
     
     
         13 . The pharmaceutical composition of  claim 12 , wherein the lectin is coupled to an immunogenicity modifier.  
     
     
         14 . The pharmaceutical composition of  claim 12 , wherein the immunogenicity modifier is a hapten.  
     
     
         15 . The pharmaceutical composition of  claim 14 , wherein the hapten is 2,4-dinitrophenol (DNP).  
     
     
         16 . The pharmaceutical composition of  claim 12 , wherein the pokeweed mitogen is coated with polyethylene glycol.  
     
     
         17 . The pharmaceutical composition of  claim 12 , which further comprises interleukin molecules.

         20 . The pharmaceutical composition of  claim 12 , wherein the lectin is Helix pomatia.  
     
     
         21 . The pharmaceutical composition of  claim 12 , wherein the nucleic acid molecule is identified by SEQ ID NO: 1  
     
     
         22 . The pharmaceutical composition of  claim 21 , wherein the nucleic acid molecule is SEQ ID NO: 1, derivatives, variants and fragments thereof.  
     
     
         23 . The pharmaceutical composition of  claim 12 , wherein the nucleic acid molecule is admixed with 1,2 dioleoyl-3-trimethylammonium-propane and cholesterol.  
     
     
         24 . The pharmaceutical composition of  claim 12 , wherein the nucleic acid molecule is Poly (I:C).  
     
     
         25 . A method of treating a cancer patient, comprising; 
 administering to a patient in need thereof, a composition as in any one of claims  1  or  12 ;    contacting a tumor cell with the composition resulting in the lysis of the tumor cell;    thereby treating the cancer patient.    
     
     
         26 . A method of inhibiting immunoglobulin isoclass switching in a cancer patient and/or patient suffering from an infectious disease organism, comprising: 
 administering to a patient in need thereof, a composition as in any one of claims  1  or  12 ;    contacting a tumor cell and/or infected cell with the composition resulting in the lysis of the cells;    thereby treating the patient.    
     
     
         27 . The method of  claim 26 , wherein immunoglobulin M (IgM) is inhibited from switching to immunoglobulin G (IgG).  
     
     
         28 . The method of  claim 27 , wherein the IgM fixes complement on a tumor and/or infected cell.
