Process for treating contact dermatitis

Abstract

Composition for topical administration comprising (a) a corticosteroid, and (b) a drying agent.

1 . A process for treating contact dermatitis, the process comprising topically applying a composition to the affected area, the composition comprising (a) a corticosteroid, (b) a drying agent selected from calamine, zinc containing drying agents, copper sulfate, kaolin, potassium permanganate, Burow's aluminum solution, talc, starch, silver nitrate and acetic acid, and (c) water.  
     
     
         2 . The process of  claim 1  wherein the composition is in the form of a lotion, cream, gel or ointment.  
     
     
         3 . The process of  claim 1  wherein the composition is in the form of a shake lotion containing a solid-in-liquid suspension.  
     
     
         4 . The process of  claim 3  wherein the corticosteroid is a low potency corticosteroid.  
     
     
         5 . The process of  claim 3  wherein the corticosteroid is a mid or high potency corticosteroid.  
     
     
         6 . The process of  claim 1  wherein the composition comprises calamine.  
     
     
         7 . The process of  claim 6  wherein the corticosteroid is a low potency corticosteroid.  
     
     
         8 . The process of  claim 6  wherein the corticosteroid is a mid or high potency corticosteroid.  
     
     
         9 . The process of  claim 6  wherein the composition is in the form of a shake lotion containing a solid-in-liquid suspension.  
     
     
         10 . The process of  claim 9  wherein the corticosteroid is a low potency corticosteroid.  
     
     
         11 . The process of  claim 9  wherein the corticosteroid is a mid or high potency corticosteroid.  
     
     
         12 . The process of  claim 1  wherein the composition comprises two drying agents, one being calamine and the other being a zinc containing drying agent.  
     
     
         13 . The process of  claim 12  wherein the corticosteroid is a low potency corticosteroid.  
     
     
         14 . The process of  claim 12  wherein the corticosteroid is a mid or high potency corticosteroid.  
     
     
         15 . The process of  claim 1  wherein the contact dermititis is caused by an allergic reaction to poison ivy, poison oak or poison sumac.  
     
     
         16 . The process of  claim 3  wherein the corticosteroid is a low potency corticosteroid.  
     
     
         17 . The process of  claim 3  wherein the corticosteroid is a mid or high potency corticosteroid.  
     
     
         18 . The process of  claim 15  wherein the composition comprises calamine.  
     
     
         19 . The process of  claim 18  wherein the corticosteroid is a low potency corticosteroid.
