Abstract

The present invention provides a protective case for carrying a portable laptop computer within a larger bag comprising a padded sleeve that slides within a rigid pocket that is removably attached to the inside of the larger bag. It further provides a modular system of interchangeable bags, padded sleeves and rigid pockets.

1 . A protective case for carrying a portable computer within a larger bag comprising: 
 a rigid pocket that is removably attached to the inside of the larger bag; and    a removable padded sleeve that securely holds the portable computer and fits within the rigid pocket.    
   
   
       2 . The protective case of  claim 1 , wherein the rigid pocket is comprised of molded plastic.  
   
   
       3 . The protective case of  claim 1 , wherein the removable padded sleeve comprises a closing flap.  
   
   
       4 . The protective case of  claim 3 , wherein the removable padded sleeve further comprises a carrying strap.  
   
   
       5 . The protective case of  claim 3 , wherein the closing flap of the removable padded sleeve closes against the rigid pocket when the removable padded sleeve is fitted within the rigid pocket.  
   
   
       6 . The protective case of  claim 5 , wherein the closing flap of the removable padded sleeve is secured in a closed position with a Velcro material.  
   
   
       7 . The protective case of  claim 5 , wherein the closing flap of the removable padded sleeve is secured in a closed position with at least one snap.  
   
   
       8 . The protective case of  claim 1 , wherein the rigid pocket can be attached to the inside of the larger bag in multiple positions.  
   
   
       9 . A modular system for carrying a portable computer comprising: 
 a bag;    a rigid pocket that is removably attached to an inside panel of the bag; and    a removable padded sleeve that securely holds the portable computer and fits within the rigid pocket.    
   
   
       10 . The modular system of  claim 9 , wherein the rigid pocket is comprised of molded plastic.  
   
   
       11 . The modular system of  claim 9 , wherein the removable padded sleeve comprises a closing flap.  
   
   
       12 . The modular system of  claim 11 , wherein the removable padded sleeve further comprises a carrying strap.  
   
   
       13 . The modular system of  claim 11 , wherein the closing flap of the removable padded sleeve closes against the rigid pocket when the removable padded sleeve is fitted within the rigid pocket.  
   
   
       14 . The modular system of  claim 13 , wherein the closing flap of the removable padded sleeve is secured in a closed position with a Velcro material.  
   
   
       15 . The modular system of  claim 13 , wherein the closing flap of the removable padded sleeve is secured in a closed position with at least one snap.  
   
   
       16 . The modular system of  claim 9 , wherein the bag is a backpack.  
   
   
       17 . The modular system of  claim 9 , wherein the rigid pocket can be attached to the inside panel of the bag in multiple positions.  
   
   
       18 . The modular system of  claim 17 , wherein the inside panel of the bag comprises Velcro-compatible fabric.
