Abstract
Methods for preventing ulcers, such as gastric ulcers, in a mammal about to undergo stress that causes gastric ulcers and prior to occurrence of a gastric ulcer condition in the mammal involving administering a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) are disclosed and claimed.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modified1 - 20 . (canceled)
21 . A method for preventing occurrence of gastric ulcers in a mammal about to undergo stress that causes gastric ulcers and prior to occurrence of a gastric ulcer condition in the mammal, comprising administering to the mammal an effective amount of a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) prior to, and optionally during, the stress.
22 . The method of claim 21 wherein the proton pump inhibitor (PPI) is omeprazole or esomeprazole.
23 . The method of claim 22 wherein the proton pump inhibitor (PPI) is omeprazole.
24 . The method of claim 23 wherein the administering is prior to and during the stress.
25 . The method of claim 23 wherein the administering is daily.
26 . The method of claim 23 wherein the gastric ulcers comprise gastrointestinal ulcers.
27 . The method of claim 23 wherein the mammal is a human.
28 . The method of claim 23 wherein the effective amount of omeprazole is 0.1 to 8 mg per kilogram body weight.
29 . The method of claim 23 wherein the effective dose is about 50% of the usual dose for the treatment of ulcers in a mammal.
30 . The method of claim 23 wherein the effective dose is about 25% of the usual dose for the treatment of ulcers in a mammal.
31 . The method of claim 23 wherein the omeprazole is in the form of a formulation for controlled release.
32 . The method of claim 23 wherein the administering is oral and the omeprazole is in a formulation for oral administration.
33 . The method of claim 32 wherein the formulation is selected from the group consisting of oral solutions, oral suspensions, feed premix, pastes, gels, powder, granules, tablets, capsules and boli.
34 . The method of claim 32 wherein the mammal is a human and the formulation is selected from the group consisting of oral solutions, oral suspensions, gels, tablets, capsules and powder.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
