Process and components for applying appliques

Abstract

A process and components for applying appliqués to create garments and other items having a vintage appearance is presented. The process utilizes originally cut appliqués having perforations and pull tabs for removing portions of the appliqué to create a resulting design.

1 . An appliqué having perforations contained therein for sewing onto a garment or material wherein portions of the appliqué near the perforations can be separated and pulled apart from the appliqué.  
   
   
       2 . The appliqué of  claim 1  wherein said appliqué comprises a felt material.  
   
   
       3 . The appliqué of  claim 1  further comprising at least one pull tab located near the perforations wherein the pull tab comprises an extension of the appliqué.  
   
   
       4 . The appliqué of  claim 1  wherein the appliqué comprises at least one of an alphanumeric character, a design, a logo, a shape, a mascot, a character, a symbol, and an icon.  
   
   
       5 . The appliqué of  claim 1  wherein said appliqué is cut by using a cutting tool that is programmed with computer software to cut a shape and size of the appliqué and the perforations contained in the appliqué.  
   
   
       6 . The appliqué of  claim 5  wherein said cutting tool comprises at least one of a laser, a water jet, a hydraulic stamping press, a knife cutting machine, and a scissors.  
   
   
       7 . A package containing a plurality of appliqués as defined in  claim 1  wherein said plurality of appliqués comprise alphabetical letters that spell at least one of a word or name.  
   
   
       8 . A process for applying at least one appliqué to a material comprising the steps of: 
 a) creating at least one appliqué having at least one distortion contained therein;    b) securing said appliqué to a material.    
   
   
       9 . The process of  claim 8  wherein said step of creating at least one appliqué comprises the steps of a) cutting at least one appliqué into a desired shape or form and b) removing at least one piece or portion of the cut appliqué.  
   
   
       10 . The process of  claim 9  wherein the step of removing at least one piece or portion of the cut appliqué comprises at least one of cutting the appliqué, tearing the appliqué, and treating the appliqué with chemicals.  
   
   
       11 . An appliqué for sewing onto a material wherein at least one piece or portion of the appliqué is removed to create a distortion in a design or shape of the appliqué.
