Abstract

A method of treating root canals includes directing an oxidizing gas onto an opened root canal and containing the oxidizing gas at the opened root canal for a period of time sufficient to kill microorganisms therein. Thereafter, the oxidizing gas is removed from the opened root canal.

         2 . A method of treating root canals, said method comprising: 
 directing an oxidizing gas onto an opened root canal;    containing the oxidizing gas at the opened root canal for a period of time sufficient to kill microorganisms therein; and    thereafter removing the oxidizing gas from the root canal.

         5 . The method according to  claim 2  wherein directing a stream of oxidizing gas comprises directing a stream of pure ozone.  
     
     
         6 . The method according to  claim 2  wherein directing a stream of oxidizing gas comprises directing a stream of ozonized air.  
     
     
         7 . The method according to  claim 6  wherein said ozonized air comprises about 5 percent ozone.  
     
     
         8 . The method according to  claim 1  wherein the removal of oxidizing gas includes flushing the oxidizing gas with a reductant.
