Abstract

A tissue culture substrate for culturing mammalian stem cell tissue includes one or more specific fish plasma fractions, isolated from any plasma remainder, in a nutrient medium. The plasma fractions are extracted from plasma obtained from the blood of one or more fish that are progeny of domesticated broodstock reared under consistent and reproducible conditions.

         22 . A tissue culture substrate for culturing mammalian stem cell tissue, comprising: 
 one or more specific fish plasma fractions, isolated from any plasma remainder, in a nutrient medium;    wherein the plasma fractions are extracted from plasma obtained from the blood of one or more fish that are progeny of domesticated broodstock reared under consistent and reproducible conditions.    
     
     
         23 . The tissue culture substrate of  claim 22 , wherein the fish is a cold water fish.  
     
     
         24 . The tissue culture substrate of  claim 23 , wherein the fish is a salmonid.  
     
     
         25 . The tissue culture substrate of  claim 24 , wherein the salmonid is an Atlantic salmon.  
     
     
         26 . The tissue culture substrate of  claim 22 , wherein the one or more specific components of the plasma include at least one of fibrinogen, thrombin, and lipids.  
     
     
         27 . The tissue culture substrate of  claim 22 , wherein the one or more specific components of the plasma include any of transferrin, albumin, plasma proteins, and enzymes.  
     
     
         28 . The tissue culture substrate of  claim 22 , wherein the one or more specific components of the plasma are fibrinogen and thrombin, and 
 wherein the tissue culture substrate further comprises calcium in tissue culture media, prepared with the fibrinogen and the thrombin as a gel.    
     
     
         29 . The tissue culture substrate of  claim 22 , wherein the fish from which the blood is obtained is at least one of sexually immature, in the log-phase of growth, larger than two kilograms, and reared by standard husbandry methods.
