Abstract
A cleaning implement with a handle and a removable cleaning pad can be used to effectively clean surfaces. The cleaning pad comprises a scrubbing layer, an interior layer, and an attachment layer. The cleaning pad is impregnated with a cleaning composition and is substantially dry-to-the-touch. The cleaning implement may be a manual tool or a motorized tool. Examples of suitable cleaning implements include a hard surface floor mop, a carpet mop; an auto cleaning device, a toilet cleaning device, a bathroom cleaning device, and a shower cleaning device.
Claims

a. a handle; and b. a removable cleaning pad comprising:
i. 20 to 60% of a substrate selected from the group consisting of water-insoluble substrates, water-soluble substrates, and water-dispersible substrates, and combinations thereof; and
ii. 40 to 80% of a cleaning composition impregnated in said substrate;
iii. wherein said substrate comprises:
1. an exterior scrubbing layer;
2. a hydrophilic interior layer; and
3. an attachment layer, wherein said attachment layer is selected from the group consisting of a water pervious attachment layer and a water impervious attachment layer; and
iv. wherein said substrate is substantially dry-to-the-touch.
2 . The cleaning implement of claim 1 , wherein said substrate has a basis weight greater than about 200 gsm.
3 . The cleaning implement of claim 2 , wherein said substrate has a bulk density less than 0.15 g/cc.
4 . The cleaning implement of claim 2 , wherein said substrate has a bulk density less than 0.10 g/cc.
5 . The cleaning implement of claim 2 , wherein said substrate has a bulk density less than 0.08 g/cc.
6 . The cleaning implement of claim 1 , wherein said substrate has a basis weight greater than about 250 gsm.
7 . The cleaning implement of claim 1 , wherein said substrate has a basis weight greater than about 300 gsm.
8 . The cleaning implement of claim 7 , wherein said substrate has a bulk density less than 0.15 g/cc.
9 . The cleaning implement of claim 7 , wherein said substrate has a bulk density less than 0.10 g/cc.
10 . The cleaning implement of claim 7 , wherein said substrate has a bulk density less than 0.08 g/cc.
11 . The cleaning implement of claim 1 , wherein said substrate has a basis weight greater than about 350 gsm.
12 . The cleaning implement of claim 1 , wherein said substrate has a basis weight greater than about 400 gsm.
13 . The cleaning implement of claim 12 , wherein said substrate has a bulk density less than 0.15 g/cc.
14 . The cleaning implement of claim 12 , wherein said substrate has a bulk density less than 0.10 g/cc.
15 . The cleaning implement of claim 12 , wherein said substrate has a bulk density less than 0.08 g/cc.
16 . The cleaning implement of claim 1 , wherein said exterior scrubbing layer comprises greater than 90% thermoplastic fibers selected from the group consisting of polypropylene, polyethylene, polyethylene terephthalate, polyamide, and combinations thereof.
17 . The cleaning implement of claim 1 , wherein said hydrophilic interior layer comprises greater than 90% hydrophilic fibers selected from hydrophilic thermoplastic, pulp, superabsorbent, and combinations thereof
18 . The cleaning implement of claim 1 , wherein said attachment layer has bulk density less than 0.15 g/cc
19 . The cleaning implement of claim 1 , wherein said attachment layer has bulk density less than 0.10 g/cc
20 . The cleaning implement of claim 1 , wherein said attachment layer has bulk density less than 0.08 g/cc
21 . The cleaning implement of claim 1 , wherein said attachment layer is formed from a process selected from the group comprising spunbond process, airlaid process, and combinations thereof.
22 . The cleaning implement of claim 1 , wherein said attachment layer is attached to a fitment.
23 . The cleaning implement of claim 1 , wherein said substrate has total absorbency greater than 5 g/g.
24 . The cleaning implement of claim 1 , wherein said substrate has total absorbency greater than 10 g/g.
25 . The cleaning implement of claim 1 , wherein said substrate has total absorbency greater than 15 g/g.
26 . The cleaning implement of claim 1 , wherein said cleaning pad has a thickness greater than 0.3 inches.
27 . The cleaning implement of claim 1 , wherein said cleaning pad has a thickness greater than 0.4 inches.
28 . The cleaning implement of claim 1 , wherein said cleaning pad has a thickness greater than 0.5 inches.
29 . The cleaning implement of claim 1 , wherein said attachment layer comprises fibers having denier greater than 1.5.
30 . The cleaning implement of claim 1 , wherein said attachment layer has an indica that indicates attachment.
31 . The cleaning implement of claim 1 , wherein said attachment layer partially pulls off during use.
32 . A method of cleaning a shower using a cleaning implement with a removable cleaning pad, which is impregnated with a cleaning composition, comprising the steps of:
a. attaching said cleaning pad to said cleaning implement; b. wetting said cleaning pad; c. wiping the surface of said shower with said cleaning pad; d. optionally, rewetting said cleaning pad; and e. optionally, rinsing the surface of said shower; f. wherein said cleaning pad comprises:
i. 20 to 60% of a substrate selected from a group consisting of water-insoluble substrates, water-soluble substrates, and water-dispersible substrates, and combinations thereof; and
ii. 40 to 80% of a cleaning composition impregnated in said substrate.
33 . The method of claim 31 , wherein said substrate comprises:
i. a hydrophobic exterior scrubbing layer; ii. a hydrophilic interior layer; iii. an attachment layer, wherein said attachment layer is selected from a group consisting of a water pervious attachment layer and a water impervious attachment layer; and iv. wherein said substrate is substantially dry-to-the-touch.
34 . A method of cleaning a shower using a cleaning implement with a removable cleaning pad, which is impregnated with a cleaning composition, comprising the steps of:
a. wetting the surface of said shower; b. attaching said removable cleaning pad to said cleaning implement; c. optionally, wetting said cleaning pad; d. wiping said surface with said cleaning pad; and e. optionally, rinsing said surface.
35 . A cleaning pad for attachment to a cleaning implement comprising:
a. 20 to 60% of a substrate selected from a group consisting of water-insoluble substrates, water-soluble substrates, and water-dispersible substrates, and combinations thereof; and b. 40 to 80% of a cleaning composition impregnated in said substrate; c. wherein said substrate comprises:
i. an exterior scrubbing layer;
ii. a hydrophilic interior layer; and
iii. an attachment layer, wherein said attachment layer is selected from a group consisting of a water pervious attachment layer and a water impervious attachment layer; and
iv. wherein said substrate is substantially dry-to-the-touch.
36 . The cleaning pad of claim 35 , wherein said hydrophilic interior layer comprises greater than three layers.
