Abstract

A belt retractor for a vehicle safety belt comprises a frame, a belt reel rotatably mounted in the frame, and an energy converter coil having at least one metal strip. The energy converter coil has a plurality of metal strips which are disposed symmetrically with respect to the middle axis of the belt reel.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
1 . A belt retractor for a vehicle safety belt, said belt retractor comprising a frame, a belt reel rotatably mounted in said frame, a housing having a drum-shaped accommodation space, and an energy converter coil to provide a bending resistance for a limitation of a force acting in said belt, said energy converter coil having at least one metal strip, said metal strip extending along a cylindrical wall of said accommodation space.

2 . The belt retractor as claimed in claim 1 , said metal strip extending over a substantial portion of the circumference of said cylindrical wall.

3 . The belt retractor as claimed in claim 1 , said metal strip providing a resistance torque that is solely determined by a bending of said metal strips.

4 . The belt retractor as claimed in claim 1 , said energy converter coil having a plurality of separate metal strips which are disposed symmetrically with respect to a middle axis of said belt reel.

5 . The belt retractor as claimed in claim 4 , said belt retractor further comprising a housing and a hub, said plurality of metal strips forming a wound metal strip package, said metal strip package being guided around said hub over a plurality of windings, said metal strips being individually attached to said housing and connected with said hub.

6 . The belt retractor as claimed in claim 1 , wherein a second energy converter coil is provided which can be selectively deactivated.

7 . The belt retractor as claimed in claim 6 , wherein said second energy converter coil has an outer ring, a holding pawl being provided by means of which said outer ring can be supported on said frame.

8 . The belt retractor as claimed in claim 7 , wherein a pyrotechnical actuator is provided to operate said holding pawl.

9 . The belt retractor as claimed in claim 1 , wherein said energy converter coil has three metal strips.

10 . The belt retractor as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the thickness of said metal strips changes along their length.

11 . The belt retractor as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the width of said metal strips changes along their length.

12 . The belt retractor as claimed in claim 1 , wherein mounted to said belt reel is a blocking pawl which can be brought in engagement with blocking teeth of a blocking ring, and wherein said blocking ring is rotatably accommodated in a holding ring at which a leaf spring is mounted, said leaf spring engaging in a pocket on an outer periphery of said blocking ring.
