Abstract
Locked automatic and semi-automatic firearms are disclosed. A disclosed firearm includes a barrel; a lock head that is lockable relative to the barrel; and a lock mount that is moveable relative to the lock head. The disclosed firearm further includes a spring coupling the lock mount and the lock head; and a buffer positioned relative to the spring such that the buffer is only loaded after the spring is partially compressed so that the spring and buffer combine to respond to compression with a progressive, non-linearly increasing power.

a barrel; a lock head that is lockable relative to the barrel; a lock mount that is moveable relative to the lock head; a spring coupling the lock mount and the lock head; and a buffer positioned relative to the spring such that the buffer is only loaded after the spring is partially compressed so that the spring and buffer combine to respond to compression with a progressive, non-linearly increasing power.
2 . A firearm as defined in claim 1 , wherein the buffer comprises at least one set of elastomer buffers.
3 . A firearm as defined in claim 2 , wherein the buffers exhibit hysteresis.
4 . A firearm as defined in claim 1 , wherein an intermediate piece is disposed between the spring and the lock head, wherein the spring is supported on the lock head via the intermediate piece when the lock head is in the locked state.
5 . A firearm as defined in claim 1 , wherein the lock head is penetrated by a firing pin.
6 . A firearm as defined in claim 5 , wherein the lock head is penetrated by a locking block that is moveable from a locked position to an unlocked position.
7 . A firearm as defined in claim 6 , wherein the locking block blocks the firing pin in a retracted, inoperative position when the locking block is in the unlocked position.
8 . A firearm as defined in claim 7 , wherein the locking block has a tapered edge to cam the firing pin to the retracted, inoperative position when the lock head moves from the locked position to the unlocked position.
9 . A firearm as defined in claim 1 , wherein the locking block is transversely moveable relative to the lock head.
10 . A firearm as defined in claim 9 , wherein the locking block is received in a recess associated with the barrel when the locking block is in the locked position.
11 . A firearm as defined in claim 9 , wherein the locking block includes front and rear guide surfaces; and
the lock mount has front and rear driving rods, wherein, during recoil, the front driving rod strikes the front guide surface of the locking block to cam the locking block out of the recess, and, during a closing movement, the rear driving rod strikes the rear guide surface of the locking block to cam the locking block into the recess.
12 . A firearm as defined in claim 11 , wherein at least one of the front and rear guide surfaces and the front and rear driving rods is beveled.
13 . A firearm as defined in claim 1 , wherein the firearm is a semi-automatic shot gun.
14 . A firearm as defined in claim 1 , further comprising a dismantle block engaging the lockhead and the lock mount.
15 . A firearm as defined in claim 14 further comprising a firing pin penetrating the dismantle block and the lock head.
