Abstract
A simplified flushing system for marine engines. The flushing system uses a pressure regulating system to supply the engine with the necessary fluid needed for flushing and cooling as well as supplying the seawater pump with enough fluid to keep it cool and lubricated.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modified1 . An apparatus for flushing a marine propulsion system comprising:
an inlet; an outlet; a pressure regulating means disposed within the propulsion system between said inlet and outlet; having the ability to:
allow unregulated flow of cooling fluid into and out of said regulating means;
regulate the pressure of cooling fluid leaving said regulating means;
regulate the pressure so as to create upstream pressure within said propulsion system;
create enough upstream pressure within said propulsion system to cause cooling fluids to flow upstream past the point of the normal fluid intake;
allow enough cooling fluid to pass through said pressure regulating means to cool and flush the downstream portion of the propulsion system while maintaining the upstream pressure
a control means by which said flushing system may be used for normal operation and flushing operation.
2 . An apparatus as set forth in claim 1 that can be installed between the normal water intake of said propulsion system and the engine portion of said propulsion system.
3 . An apparatus as set forth in claim 1 that can be installed between the engine of said propulsion system and normal outlet portion of said propulsion system.
4 . The control means of claim 1 having the ability to be manually adjusted by the marine propulsion operator.
5 . An apparatus for flushing a marine propulsion system comprising:
an inlet; an outlet; a pressure regulating means disposed within the propulsion system between said inlet and outlet; having the ability to:
allow unregulated flow of cooling fluid into and out of said regulating means;
regulate the pressure of cooling fluid leaving said regulating means;
regulate the pressure so as to create upstream pressure within said propulsion system;
create enough upstream pressure within said propulsion system to cause cooling fluids to flow upstream past the point of the normal fluid intake;
allow enough cooling fluid to pass through said pressure regulating means to cool and flush the downstream portion of the propulsion system while maintaining the upstream pressure
a control means by which said flushing system may be used for normal operation and flushing operation.
6 . An apparatus as set forth in claim 5 that can be installed between the normal water intake of said propulsion system and the engine portion of said propulsion system.
7 . An apparatus as set forth in claim 5 that can be installed between the engine of said propulsion system and normal outlet portion of said propulsion system.
