Claims

Abstract

An electro-optic display comprises first and second substrates, and an adhesive layer and a layer of electro-optic material disposed between these substrates, the adhesive layer comprising a mixture of a polymeric adhesive material and an additive selected from a salt, a polyelectrolyte, a polymer electrolyte, a solid electrolyte, a conductive metal powder, a ferrofluid, a non-reactive solvent, a conductive organic compound, and combinations thereof. In one aspect, there is provided an adhesive comprising a mixture of a polymeric adhesive material and an additive selected from a salt, a polyelectrolyte, a polymer electrolyte, a solid electrolyte, and combinations thereof.

1 . An adhesive comprising a mixture of a polymeric adhesive material and an additive selected from a salt, a polyelectrolyte, a polymer electrolyte, a solid electrolyte, and combinations thereof.  
     
     
         2 . The adhesive of  claim 1  wherein the polymeric adhesive material is selected from a polyurethane, vinyl acetate, vinyl acetate ethylene, an epoxy, a polyacrylic-based adhesive, and combinations thereof.  
     
     
         3 . An adhesive comprising a mixture of a polymeric adhesive material and an additive selected from a conductive metal powder, a ferrofluid, a non-reactive solvent, a conductive organic compound, and combinations thereof.  
     
     
         4 . The adhesive of  claim 3  wherein the polymeric adhesive material is selected from a polyurethane, vinyl acetate, vinyl acetate ethylene, an epoxy, a polyacrylic-based adhesive, and combinations thereof.  
     
     
         5 . An adhesive comprising a polymeric adhesive material and an additive comprising a salt.  
     
     
         6 . The adhesive of  claim 5  wherein the salt is at least one selected from potassium acetate, tetraalkylammonium salts, LiCF 3 SOF 3 , LiClO 4 , LiPF 6 , LiBF 4 , LiAsF 6 , and LiN(CF 3 SO 2 ) 3 .  
     
     
         7 . An adhesive comprising a polymeric adhesive material and an additive comprising a polyelectrolyte.  
     
     
         8 . The adhesive of  claim 7  wherein the polyelectrolyte is at least one selected from polyacrylic acid, polystyrene sulfonate, poly(2-vinylpyridine), poly(4-vinylpyridine), poly(dimethylammonium chloride, poly(dimethylaminoethyl methacrylate), and poly(diethylaminoethyl methacrylate).  
     
     
         9 . An adhesive comprising a polymeric adhesive material and an additive comprising a polymer electrolyte.  
     
     
         10 . The adhesive of  claim 9  wherein the polymer electrolyte is at least one selected from polyether compounds, polyamines, and polymers which contain quaternary ammonium groups.  
     
     
         11 . An adhesive comprising a polymeric adhesive material and an additive comprising a solid electrolyte.  
     
     
         12 . An adhesive comprising a polymeric adhesive material and an additive comprising a conductive metal powder.  
     
     
         13 . The adhesive of  claim 12  wherein the conductive metal powder comprises nickel.  
     
     
         14 . An adhesive comprising a polymeric adhesive material and an additive comprising a ferrofluid.  
     
     
         15 . An adhesive comprising a polymeric adhesive material and an additive comprising a non-reactive solvent.  
     
     
         16 . The adhesive of  claim 15  wherein the non-reactive solvent is at least one selected from water, diethyl ether, dipropyl ether, diethyleneglycol, glyme, diglyme, and N-methylpyrrolidone.  
     
     
         17 . An adhesive comprising a polymeric adhesive material and an additive comprising a conductive organic compound.  
     
     
         18 . The adhesive of  claim 17  wherein the conductive organic compound is at least one selected from polyaniline, polythiophene, polypyrrole, poly-3,4-dioxyethylene thiophene, and derivatives thereof.
