Abstract

A method of compressed mode communications permits evaluation of one communication system while communicating in another communication system. User equipment devices ( 108, 110 ) are assigned to different portions of a frame during compressed mode.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
1 . (canceled)

       2 . (canceled)

       3 . (canceled)

4 . A method of allocating measurement and transmission portions within a frame of a framed communication system wherein transmissions are compressed within the frame, comprising the steps of:
checking a deterministic parameter known to user equipment and a base station; communicating in compressed mode in first portion of the frame if the deterministic parameter has a first value; and transmitting in a second portion of the frame if the deterministic parameter has a second value.

5 . The method according to claim 5 , wherein the deterministic parameter is a bit of the IMEI.

6 . The method according to claim 5 , wherein the deterministic parameter is number stored in memory known to the user equipment and the base station.

7 . A method of allocating measurement and transmission portions within a frame of a framed communication system wherein communications are compressed within the frame, comprising the steps of:
producing a pseudo-random number known to a user equipment and a base station; and determining which frame portion communication takes place between the user equipment and base station frame-to-frame using a deterministic value in the pseudo-random number.

8 . The method according to claim 7 , wherein the deterministic value is a predetermined bit in the pseudo-random number.

9 . The method according to claim 7 , wherein the deterministic value is a predetermined number based on an encryption sequence used for a communication between the user equipment and the base.

10 . The method according to claim 7 , wherein the deterministic value is extracted from a shift register.

       11 . (canceled)

       12 . A user equipment device, comprising:
a transceiver; and an uplink compressed mode controller operable to control transmissions via the transceiver to a first communication system during a first portion of a frame, and to control measurements of a second communication system during a second portion of the frame, wherein the uplink compressed mode controller selects the first and second portions according to a deterministic value.

       13 . (canceled)

14 . A network for a cellular communication system, comprising
a transceiver; and an uplink compressed mode controller operable to control transmissions via the transceiver to a first communication system during a first portion of a frame, and to control measurements of a second communication system during a second portion of the frame, wherein the uplink compressed mode controller selects the first and second portions according to a deterministic value.
